Pro Bowl Betting – Pro Bowl still worth watching

January 29, 2010 By: Guest Blogger Category: NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Chris JohnsonSuper Bowl betting is on the minds of many in the online betting industry right now, but the NFL is trying to drum up interest in the Pro Bowl by moving it from Hawaii to Miami, the site of the Super Bowl, and a week before the big game. There are a number of injuries to both rosters, but here are four players to keep an eye on this Sunday.

AFC vs NFC odds – Sunday, January 31, 7:20 PM ET

Chris Johnson, Tennessee: the Offensive Player of the Year this season, Johnson was the runaway rushing leader with 2,006 yards to go with 14 touchdowns. Other telling stats: Johnson had just three fumbles despite an NFL-high 358 carries, and he paced the league with 79 rushing first-downs.

Darrelle Revis, New York Jets: the Pro Bowl is usually a shootout (sportsbook players should know that eight of the last 10 Pro Bowls have had 55 points or more scored), and the NFC will look to air it out against the player many call the best cover corner in the league. Revis had six picks during the regular season, and then two more in the playoffs, and shut down many of the game’s best receivers.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay: the Packers’ pivot was fourth in the league in yards and passer rating, and one only wonders what kind of numbers Rodgers would have had if he wasn’t sacked a league-high 50 times. The Packers’ offensive line pulled it together in the second half of the year, so look for a confident Rodgers to throw some bombs on Sunday.

Miles Austin, Dallas: Larry Johnson of Arizona and Minnesota’s Sidney Rice are out with injuries, but the NFC, who are 2.5-point favorites according to US sportsbook odds (US sportsbook review), still have Austin, who came out of nowhere to rank third in receiving yards. Austin had 250 yards in Week 5 at Kansas City, and never took his foot off the gas, although he was kept quiet in the Cowboys’ humbling loss at Minnesota in this year’s playoffs. Austin tied for second in the NFL with 21 plays of 20 yards or more, and teammate Tony Romo will surely look for the wide receiver when they’re both in the game.

NFL betting picks: The NFC (-2.5) is too deep at quarterback for the AFC.

First Annual Fantasy Football Sharky Awards

December 23, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Fantasy Football, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Chris JohnsonBefore I start off, you know that “Fantasy Football Stats” always need some disclaimers. The following stats are considered in a point per catch league and are through NFL Week 15. So let’s not have hate mail people!

Well, by now most of the fantasy football playoffs and championships have come to a close, not too soon for some, and kind of sad for others I’m sure. We all had our ups and downs, our duds, our sleepers and our MVP’s. We have all cursed guys we swear we will never draft again, and praised the guys we hope to get again next year. We have all pumped our chest out for those great waiver wire picks, but have also dealt with the painful phrase, “I knew I should have started (insert any players name here).”

So as you look back at your draft boards to see what you did wrong, and who you should have taken instead, also take a few minutes to look upon my “Sharky Awards” and pay honor to, and of course bash, everyone who made our fantasy football season that much more fun. For every Roy Williams that made you cry, there was a Miles Austin to make you smile, just remember those good times and keep having fun!

Ok so with all the guest dressed up in black ties, and all the gorgeous celebrity types ready to present awards at the podium, we are ready to hand out the awards. Sorry, I could not possibly pull off some big after party. I just could not get the stars to commit to coming out, being the holiday season and all. Maybe next year?

2009 “Sharky” MVP Award:
I present this award to the player who never really took a week off, or a play off for that matter, a player that killed it week in and week out. The winner is:

Chris Johnson, Running Back, Tennessee Titans.
1730 rush yards,11 tds, 44 receptions, 446 yards, 2 tds.
Johnson is the new coming of L.T. for all of you who can remember back that far (some 2 years!). Johnson has had 200 yard games, killed it from scrimmage all year and has the ability to bring home the league MVP award on a team that may not even make the playoffs. He made his team forget all about a commitee situation with LenDale White, and was clearly the most started player in any league this year.

Comeback Player Of The Year:
To celebrate a guy we would have never dreamed of drafting or playing again, and showed awesome numbers this season. The winner is:

Ricky Williams, Running Back, Miami Dolphins
1055 rush yards, 11 tds, 27 receptions, 234 yards, 2 tds.
Let’s face it, no one in their right mind thought that Ricky Williams would be a guy you had to start every week. Granted the season ending injury to Ronnie Brown helped, but Williams showed numbers much like the ones he showed early in his career. Most of the young guys can’t even stand up to what he has done this year. After bouts with marijuana, and retirement and defying age, Williams has been a top 10 back this season.

Best Waiver Wire Pick Up Performer:
This goes out to a player that pretty much no one drafted, but picked him up later in the year and was greatly awarded. The winner is:

Jamaal Charles, Running Back, Kansas City Chiefs
759 rush yards, 5 tds, 36 receptions, 272 yards, 1 td, 925 return yards, 1 td
For some reason, the Chiefs rode the Larry Johnson train much longer then they should have. Charles has great hands and great speed and when the Chiefs finally had enough of Johnson, he stepped in and has been huge. He does it all, runs, catches, returns and scores. Let’s face it, when you picked him up on the wire, some laughed at you, simply because he was on a bad club. Well we will all see who is jumping on this bandwagon at next seasons draft, won’t we!

Best Rookie Performer:
We award the best fantasy newcomer, and the people with the guts to run them out there every week. The winner is:

Percy Harvin, Wide Receiver, Minnesota Vikings
49 catches, 691 yards, 6 tds 1017 return yards, 2 tds, 103 rush yards
It was a very close race, and I need to give props to Knowshon Moreno, but very few rookies have meant as much, or has done as much for their team then Harvin. Teamed with veteran QB Brett Favre, Harvin has made the Vikings offense a passing team as well as a running team. He had doubters coming out of college, but now his stock is rising for sure.

Biggest Bust Award:
This is easy. A player picked very hgh in most drafts that you found yourself benching mid-way through the season. You know there is plenty of good candidates, but we narrowed it down to this winner:

Brandon Jacobs, Running Back, New York Giants.
782 rush yards, 5 tds, 17 receptions, 182 yards, 1 td
How many of you thought that when Derrick Ward left for Tampa that Jacobs would be just that better a fantasy pick up? Well for all who did, you used first or second round picks on him, and well from the numbers it didn’t pan out. Jacobs averages about 14 points a week in a yahoo system, which for a starting RB is average at best. The Giants have no real set identity on offense, and this shows us that.

Biggest Season Killing Injury:
We give this out to the poor player and people that drafted him high and lost him quickly. Every year one player totally torches a season by getting hurt, and this year we have a clear cut winner:

Brian Westbrook, Running Back, Philadelphia Eagles.
We always suggest to handcuff players with their back ups, so if you grabbed Westbrook (and if you did you know it was first or second round) and did not grab LeSean McCoy, then you had a tough season. Westbrooks stats are not even worth printing, they are that meaningless to anyone. Also you have to wonder that at 30 years old, has his days of being a productive fantasy player passed him bye? It never goes gradual as guys such as Marshal Faulk, Shaun Alexander, and even L.T. will tell you.

Quarterback Of The Year:
Given to the QB who has put up the best fantasy numbers. The season is not over yet, but this winner will shock many of you:

Aaron Rodgers, Quarterback, Green Bay Packers
3962 yards, 28 tds, 305 rush yards, 4 tds
Manning? Brees? Brady? Schaub? I know you are all asking that, but look at it closely folks, and you will see it’s Rodgers. The man that has replaced Favre in Green Bay is finally playing as such, and his ability to run as well as throw, and to score more from bigger distance is what has him at the top. Ok,so maybe you all like the, “other guys” but I have found in being in 4 leagues this year, that Rodgers is a guy that kills it every week. Could you just imagine how much better his numbers can be if Greg Jennings actually showed up and they had a stronger running game?

Best Running Back:
Simple, the bread winners of your fantasy team. The winner is (of course)

Chris Johnson, Titans
See MVP above for all his stats. Maurice Jones Drew was a very close second however with 16 total tds, but Johnson just trumps everyone with all his combined stats. We may have a new overall number 1 pick next year Mr. Peterson. I think Chris should get ready for his close ups, as he should be on the cover of many a magazine next August.

Best Wide Receiver:
Always the toughest to choose in a class filled with stars. So after lots of sorting we came up with this winner:

Andre Johnson, Wide Receiver, Houston Texans.
90 receptions, 1433 yards, 8 tds
Always tough to say who is the best here. So many guys deserve props, so a big round of applause for Brandon Marshall, Reggie Wayne, DeSean Jackson and on and on. Johnson just goes crazy with yards, and will most likely do 100 grabs again this year. He’s big and tough, a total freak on the field. Yes many say Larry Fitzgerald is the best, but let Andre get to a Super Bowl, and see what we all say about him.

Best Defense:
We celebrate the defense that just racks up all the goods in all the catagories. This winner is back to its old fantasy form:

The Philadelphia Eagles
39 sacks, 2 safeties, 23 ints, 13 fumble recoveries, 4 tds, 1 block FG

Yes the Saints defense has scored 8 tds, which is huge, but Philly has done it all, and it seems to be week in and week out. In every fantasy catagory the Birds show up in the top 5, and were a point scoring machine. It kind of looks like the old Buddy Ryan days again in Philly, huh Eagles fans? Asante Samuel, Trent Cole, Sheldon Brown and the rest have made it a big year for owners of this defense.

Best Kicker:
From all over the field, and after the td’s this guy has put them through the uprights for us. The winner is:

David Akers, Philadelphia Eagles
Akers? A couple of years ago he was in the talks as the first kicker taken, then he lost his form and his clutch abaility. This year he leads all fantasy kickers in FG’s from 40-49 yards, and has 40 PAT’s to go along with it. He’s been much more accurate and reliable then just about any kicker this year. Only Nate Kaeding of San Diego can compete with Akers numbers this season.

The fond farewell tour:
We pay homage to those who were once big point producers, but now appear at the end of the line. Some players who have been first and second round picks who may now be late rounders if even drafted. So without all kinds of numbers let’s give it up for:

Terrell Owens
Torry Holt
Ladainian Tomlinson
Brian Westbrook
Larry Johnson
Matt Hasselbeck

And lets give it up for some stars on the rise, or players who may have just found first round glory with some late season heroics:

Jamaal Charles
Jerome Harrison
Sidney Rice
Ray Rice
Mike Sims-Walker
Hakeem Nicks

Now we hand out a few more “DUD” awards, we all love our underachievers.

Biggest QB Dud:

Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears
3117 yards, 19 tds 25 ints
In leagues that deduct for INTs, Cutler must have been a nightmare. Yes he had a couple of good yardage games, but his performance became downright brutla near the end of the season. So Chicago finally got it’s big time QB huh? Tell that to Denver.

Biggest RB Dud:

Matt Forte, Chicago Bears
754 yards, 4 tds, 53 receptions, 455 yards
Rejoice Steve Slaton owners, by the numbers you did not get burned as bad as Forte owners. Wow the Bears went all out to let us down this year huh folks? Forte was a mere shell of what he was last year, and it made his team and every fantasy owners team that owned him suffer. If back up Kevin Jones did not get hurt, or if Adrian Peterson showed a lick of ability to play then Forte would have gotten even less action then the garbage he posted.

Biggest WR Dud:

Roy Williams, Dallas Cowboys
37 receptions, 592 yards, 6 tds
He ran Terrell Owens out of town. He had Jerry Jones trade for him last year. He also made many draftees pumped up about his potential. Do you think he still says “I’m a number 1 receiver”? Because in fantasy value he’s more like 101.

Lifetime ( or so it feels like ) Achievement Award

Can you believe that Donald Driver and Derrick Mason still get put into fantasy dtarting lineups? It’s hard to imagine, but its true. at 36 and 37 years YOUNG, these guys continue to put up good fantasy numbers, but you have to wonder when it finally will come to an end?

Just a side bar note fans, in my last fantasy article of the year, which will be in 2 weeks, we will give you the results of our very own CamelClutchBlog Fantasy League. The Championship game is looking like The Sharks very own Team Nice Guys vs our beloved blog moderator Eric G and his Team Dusty’s Red Belly Spot. Should be a big time match up. For all of you who are still in contention, good luck, and for all of you who have won it all, we say congrats to you!

Fantasy Football Week 12 Studs and Duds

December 03, 2009 By: Michael Williams Category: Fantasy Football, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Drew BreesThis week of Studs and Duds features names that have been on this list multiple times this year and those that are not only carrying their football teams, but the fantasy teams that they are on.

STUDS:

Drew Brees: Was there any doubt that this man would lead the list of studs? His performance last night against the Patriots was nearly perfect. The fact the same number of incompletions as he did touchdowns with 5 is mind blowing. He made the Patriots defense look like the Lions defense that he played in week one. Drew Brees and Saints might just go undefeated and as long as the Vikings are close in the standings, Brees and the Saints will be fantasy studs.

Brett Favre: Speaking of the Vikings, this man is on another level. Like I have stated before, I hate his man with such a passion, but I have to respect his ability to play football. He destroyed my Bears and almost broke his record for passing yards as a 40 year old. It looked like he was his old super bowl form with the way he was slinging the ball and smiling the entire game. As previously stated, as long as the Vikings stay close with the Saints in the standings, Favre will be a fantasy stud.

Chris Johnson: Anyone who is playing against Chris Johnson, better prepare for a 20+ point effort from him. This man is insane and everyone, whether fantasy or real football, should fear this man. He is unreal and has been compared to the great Deion Sanders in breakaway speed and game-breaking ability. That’s a pretty good comparison in only your second year in the NFL. With the Titans not slowing down anytime soon, I don’t see Chris Johnson doing so either. Whoever owns Johnson in a fantasy league, congrats, you have the most dangerous player I have seen in a long while.

Other Notables: Aaron Rodgers/Donald Driver, Tony Romo/Miles Austin, Phillip Rivers/Antonio Gates, and Justin Forsett

DUDS:

Tom Brady: Way to not be clutch Tom Brady. He was the complete opposite of what Drew Brees was during the Monday Night Football game. He had some awful throws and eventually got pulled at the end of the game to stop any further bleeding that he already had. Another reason why he is a dud this week: One of my friends was down 5 points in his fantasy league and had only Pierre Thomas to go against a team that had Tom Brady to go. The team with Pierre Thomas ended up winning. Fantasy owners don’t need to worry though; he’s Tom Brady, the golden boy. Also, the Saints pass defense is probably the best in the NFL. No worries.

Jake Delhomme: I’m just going to come out and say it: John Fox needs to bench the awful Jake Delhomme. Not only did he throw another 4 INT game of the season against the Jets, but his passes looked more like punts with the way they were floating up in the air. Clearly Delhomme has lost his ability to lead an NFL team and if Fox doesn’t want to have a losing season, he will bench Delhomme and start running the ball again. Delhomme’s highest TD game was 2. Delhomme’s highest fumble game was 2. The man is a turnover machine and the Panthers look to be sinking with him.

Eli Manning: In a game that Manning and the Giants needed so badly, Eli played just as bad. It is true that I am not a big Eli fan and haven’t been, but in his sixth year in the league, he needs to play like the franchise quarterback he is. But what about last week when he tore up the Falcons pass defense? For those of you that don’t know, the Falcons secondary is in shambles and has tons of injuries. Josh Freeman looked like a solid QB against them and almost led his team to victory. Eli needs to step up and produce as a real Manning in the next three games against Dallas, Philly, and Washington, or the Giants have no shot this year.

Other Notables: Jay Cutler, Brandon Jacobs, Panthers rushing attack, and anyone who went out for a pass against the Saints D

Fantasy Football Week 11 Preview and Picks

November 20, 2009 By: Michael Williams Category: Fantasy Football, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Matt SchaubWeek 11 is full of great matchups for the weekly top point scorers for the NFL, but there are many players that could easily surprise the league and blow up with a huge game.

QUARTERBACKS:
You have to like my favorite fantasy quarterback in Matt Schaub. He is playing on Monday night at home against a hated division rival. He’s had two off games but is rested up with a bye-week and should be able to put up big numbers against the porous Titans defense. Remember, the Titans may be on a 3 game win streak but their defense still is not good.

How can’t Kurt Warner have a big game against the Rams on turf? He may be one of the best indoor/turf quarterbacks of all time and there is no way that the Rams contain another good passing attack at home. Anquan Boldin is finally healthy and Larry Fitzgerald is well, Larry Fitzgerald and usually puts up 100 yards and a TD. Sure Beanie Wells produced well last week, but the Cardinals will be throwing all day long.

If Drew Brees doesn’t have a 20 point game against the Bucs then there may be something wrong with the offense. Of course I am not even the least bit worried. He’s Drew Brees and he’s on the Saints. The only thing I may be worried about is that he may be too good and make Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson into fantasy gold, while leaving Colston out of the picture (he’s on my fantasy team).

Notables: Big Ben, Carson Palmer, and probably D-Nabb against a struggling Bears D

RUNNING BACKS:
I’m too afraid to not put Chris Johnson first on this list because he may blow up for another 40 points and shut me up. I’m glad that the Titans are giving him more than 25 touches in a game because he is that good, and they are playing the streaky Texans D who is bound to give up big plays to the king of breakout plays. I wouldn’t be surprised if he put up another 30 points because he’s done it so many times.

Although he cost me a win in fantasy last week, he is still Mighty Mouse to me. He apologized to fantasy owners and the real apology will come when he lights up the Buffalo run defense and scores 25 points, if he’s nice then 30. MJD will be flying this weekend against a team with a new coach and a new quarterback. If Jack Del Rio was smart, he would run the ball into the playoffs and take Garrard out of situations to make mistakes.Notables: Steven Jackson, Matt Forte, and AP

WIDE RECEIVERS:
My boy Matt Schaub has got to pass it to someone right? Owen Daniels is out and Slaton is falling every day. Well good thing he has arguably the best receiver in the game with Andre Johnson. He should put up over 150 yards and 2 TDs when all is said and done. The Titans D is still the one that gave up all those points to the Patriots and they will be exposed with the Texans on the big stage.

Take your pick between the top big dogs of Randy Moss, who is angry about his previous performance against the Jets, Fitzgerald/Boldin, who are playing the Rams defense and have Warner throwing the ball, and Reggie Wayne, who is on another level with the best quarterback in the game, Peyton Manning. Either or all could have a huge game for their teams and should all be a must start. I predict that Fitzgerald shows off why he was ranked number 1 on many big boards for wide receivers.

Notables: Giants WRs vs. the terrible Falcons pass defense, Donald Driver, Sidney Rice

SLEEPERS:
Many of the sleepers that people are naming this week are based on the injuries that came from the starting running backs ahead of them. Ladell Betts is getting big talk because of the work he did against a very good Denver D. Along with Betts are Jason Snelling and Justin Forsett who look to get a healthy diet of carries for the Falcons and Seahawks while their starters are injured. Why not have Donnie Avery as a sleeper? Because he is the clear number 1 on the team and maybe, just maybe the Rams can get some offense going again.

Sharks’ Flash and Crash – Fantasy Start ‘em or Sit ‘em NFL Week 11

November 20, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Fantasy Football, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Ben RoethlisbergerIf you ask a lot of the experts, they will tell you that there are alot of great matchups out there this week for fantasy football players. As we all know, what is predicted and how it finishes can way too often be totally different things. Then again, as Ronnie Brown watches his season end I sit here and write this piece while watching Ricky Williams explode for 3 touchdowns, so I guess that anything is possible.

So here I am once again to try and shed some light on what you should do with some of your players this week in my coulumn that I call “Flash and Crash”. Hey, it’s not always perfect but I know even I could have told you to sit any Browns player last week, right? So here is what I have for you this week:

Quarterback:

Flash

Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers at Chiefs
After last week’s tough loss against the Bengals, you can be sure that Ben and the Steelers are ready to feast on the weak. Enter a terrible Chiefs defense, and the fact that the Chiefs offense is also missing key weapons, and it should be a field position dream for Big Ben. The Steelers have to think of playoffs, and this game should be a mop up!

Donovan McNabb, Eagles at Bears
McNabb loves to play in his hometown of Chicago. Add to the fact that the Bears defense has been dreadful, and also that the Eagles are in their usual late season desperation mode, and it spells good things for McNabb. If Cutler goes into turnover mode again, McNabb may be able to find 4 tds here, but let’s not go crazy.

Kurt Warner, Cardinals at Rams
You can’t really think of this as a road game for Warner can you? This was his house, and he was the ring leader of the “Greatest Show On Turf” back in his Rams days. Wow, when you look at how bad St. Louis has gotten since then, it seems like a century ago? The Rams just don’t have enough to slow down everything that the Cardinals can throw at them, and Arizona is also still perfect on the road.

Crash

Carson Palmer, Bengals at Raiders
I know that the Bengals keep rolling along, but not a lot of it has to do with huge days from Palmer. The Raiders still have a decent secondary, and a lousy run defense. I’m expecting to see alot of runs and some good turnovers by Cincy’s defense leading to a short field, and not much from Carson.

Matt Ryan, Falcons at Giants
Maybe a tough call here with Michael Turners injury. The Falcons may have little choice but to pass to stay in games for now, but Ryan has been dreadful the last few weeks. Tony Gonzalez has disappeared, and the offensive line seems weak lately. Plus, the Giants expect Aaron Ross back so a healthier Giants defense can’t help Matty-Ice much.

Joe Flacco, Ravens at Colts
Yes, I watched last weeks game, did you? No not the Colts game, that thing that was played on Monday night. Indy’s pass rush is way too much for Flacco who seems to be slowly regressing. Flacco doesn’t have alot of weapons down the field to take advantage of. This matchup is not looking good for Joe Flacco.

Sleeper: Matt Stafford, Lions
Handle With Care: Jay Cutler

Running Back:

Flash

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars vs Bills
If you saw what Chris Johnson did to them last week you’d know what I have cooking here. The Bills have the worst run defense in the league, and for the second straight week take on a team that lives and breathes off of a good running game. MJD may be up for one of those crazy kinds of days that makes owners gush, and opponenets cry.

Pierre Thomas, Saints at Bucs
Ok, so I am now officially on the theory that when Thomas has one bad week he’s due for a big one the following week. The Buc defense isn’t very tough, and well if you want to be fair last week was Reggie Bush’s week, so now it has to be Thomas’ turn, right? I know there are better picks, but I am here to go a little beyond the obvious, so try Mr. Thomas, won’t you?

LeSean McCoy, Eagles at Bears
As McNabb struggles connecting with WRs, McCoy will be there to do his Westbrook West Coast impersonation. I expect McCoy to be very busy with runs and catches and he will have to see the end zone if the Eagles are to make it in this one. The Bears defense let Frank Gore go wild last week, so even a little wild from McCoy will equal good things.

Crash

Ryan Grant, Packers vs 49ers
Grant is a very hard back to figure out? He works magic against bad teams and just kinda plays against the rest. Now I’m not saying San Francisco is a great team, but the defensive front was the only bright spot they had last week, so I’m sticking with it here and going against Grant.

Thomas Jones, Jets at Patriots
Jones has quietly had a good season, but the Patriots are ready to humiliate someone to make up for what happened to them last week. The Pats defense is looking tougher of late, and they may help jump out to a quick lead, so the Jets will be more likely to have to pass alot.

Joseph Addai, Colts vs Ravens
Yes Addai has been doing some stuff, but not here. He manages to stock up points with his little dunk passes, and does find the end zone, but the Ravens are still tough to run against and there is some guy named Manning who passes just fine.

Sleeper Pick: Bernard Scott, Bengals
Handle With Care: Steven Jackson, Rams

Wide Receiver:

Flash

Sidney Rice, Vikings vs Seahawks
Why? Hey why not! Rice has been killing it recently. Perhaps last week’s 7 catches for 201 yards was enough to make Favre forget about over stocking Berrian and Harvin with balls. Rice is finally getting back to being the kid the Vikings thought they had drafted and he’s looking dangerous for opponents. Add to that the fact that Peterson is always a threat and means the opposition can’t focus strictly on Rice.

Steve Smith, Giants vs Falcons
Fantasy people, you know how much I love to boldly predict the return of a big numbers guy after he has slumped. This is the week Steve Smith goes back to huge form! The Falcons are a mess on defense, and it seems like the name “Steve Smith” alone seems to haunt them. This week another SS goes nuts on them.

Miles Austin, Cowboys vs Redskins
After last weeks mess, do you think Tony Romo will be looking for Roy Williams alot? Think Williams still wants to yap to him about how he’s “,still number 1″ He looked alot more like number 2. Last week the Redskins watched Brandon Marshall go nuts on them, and Austin will do even more as Romo stays healthy, unlikie Orton did last week.

Crash

Brandon Marshall, Broncos at Chargers
I hate to do this, but if Chris Simms starts, Marshall is in big trouble. I could be wrong, but did you watch Simms play last week? I saw it, and I doubt he has a clue as to who number 15 is?

Devin Hester, Bears vs Eagles
Hester was held pretty quiet last week and here he will face Asante Samuel and the Eagles. The Eagles still do good work on WRs despite the brutal time they have with TEs. If you have Greg Olsen, maybe consider him, but I think Samuel is way too crafty a defender for Hester here.

Michael Crabtree, 49ers at Packers
We have seen that the 49ers seem to like this kid and want him to have the ball. Then again I’ve seen Megan Fox, and would love to have her for my girlfriend, but you know what, real life is real life. Charles Woodson was incredible last week, and the Packer secondary seems to be playing better ball. So as bad as they want Crabtree to shine, it may not be the best week to try it.

Sleeper Pick: Bryant Johnson, Lions
Handle With Care: Roddy White, Falcons

Defense

Flash

Patriots vs Jets
Vikings vs Seahawks
Steelers at Chiefs

Crash
Rams vs Cardinals
Redskins at Cowboys
Bills at Jaguars

Get ready people. it’s waiver wire time. Just when we thought there was no good talent left, whammo, injuries plague top players and here are some tip back ups to hook up with.

Justin Forsett, RB, Seahawks
It may not be a great play this week against the Vikes tough defense, but I think he opened eyes last week, and Julius Jones, hurt or healthy may have lost his spot. Forsett is just a better all around back, and should get more time here.

Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals
Cedric Benson doesn’t seem concerned about his injury, but fantasy owners are. This kid looked excellent last week against the Steelers, and if Benson is out this week, he will get his first start against a terrible Raiders run defense.

Jason Snelling, RB, Falcons
Depending on how long Michael Turner is out and if Jerious Norwood can come back, you have to take a shot at ths guy as the Falcons love to run the football. He had a nice week in relief last week.

Jason Avant, WR, Eagles
It may be a reach, but it looks like the Eagles young guns are being roughed up by opposing CBs. Avant has been around for a few years and knows McNabb. His big game last week may be met with a few more as McNabb looks to mix it up.

Inside The Wheelhouse – Top 5 NFL Stories from Week 10

November 18, 2009 By: Wheelhouse Radio Category: NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Chris Johnson5. Titans win 3rd straight game:

All of a sudden the Tennessee Titans have become one of the hottest teams in the NFL. They have won three straight games since Vince Young took over in Tennessee and they continue to keep finding ways to win. While a portion of NFL fans may be rooting against Vince Young due to his past antics over the course of his NFL career, I for one will be rooting this team on to hopefully have a miracle run into a playoff spot.

The Titans are a tough team to root against especially if they continue to win. What NFL fan doesn’t want to see a team come over mid-season adversity like a 0-6 start only to make a run at a playoff push? I know I may be speaking a little over my head at this stage in the season and the Titans at 0-6 but you have got to root this ball club on right now. While we all like to joke about Vince Young on his statement of being a “future hall of famer,” I would like to see him make a run at that prediction. For the time being Vince Young, Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans have made me into believers.

4. Jay Cutler throws 5 INTs:

Jay Cutler has become one of the worst Quarterbacks in the NFL. I repeat Jay Cutler has become one of the worst Quarterbacks in the NFL. He continues to make horrible decisions and is starting to lead the league in interceptions thrown. While people at the four letter network want to seem to blame the Bears offense on Cutler’s struggles, the QB himself needs to be blamed.

This Bears team was supposed to be favorites in the NFC after Jay Cutler joined them at the QB helm. Lovie Smith finally got the QB he always wanted in his Bears tenure and Cutler got out of Denver on bad terms. It now looks like Denver made the right move by getting rid of this troubled quarterback. Another bad couple of weeks for Cutler and the rumor mill will start out that Cutler may actually be a flop in Chicago.

3. The Jaguars are above .500:

Just like many headlines I have written in these blogs throughout the season. I can not believe I just wrote that one. Saying it is even worse. This is something NOBODY (including the fans that don’t go to the game) saw coming! The Jacksonville Jaguars are 5-4 and are above .500 on the season in Week 10.

You could see the Jags have a winning record in Week 1-3 but in Week 10!? Who would have thought that would happen. Credit has to be given to Jack Del Rio and the job he does year in and year out in Jacksonville. To take a team led by David Garrard with little offense with the lone exception of MJD is pretty amazing. I don’t see the Jags making the playoffs, but at best they could be 8-8.

2. Bengals sweep the Steelers:

The Cincinnati Bengals are for real. Anyone questioning this team’s ability got a chance to get it tested after they swept the Pittsburgh Steelers this season. The victory has made the Bengals 5-0 in their division and they need only a victory over the Cleveland Browns to go 6-0 in the AFC North on the season.

The Bengals did lose Cedric Benson for some time with a hip injury but did sign free agent running back Larry Johnson for the rest of the season. Cincy is hoping they get a motivated Larry Johnson to supply the same fire power Benson did for the Bengals running game. Should we get the Larry Johnson that was potentially held back in Kansas City and the same running back we saw the start of his career the Bengals could be dangerous. It’s hard for me to make them a favorite in the AFC with Indy and New England. But they definitely are in the Top 3 in the AFC now.

1. 4th and 2:

This being the top story from Week 10 shouldn’t come as a shocker to any NFL fan. For the first time in Bill Belichick’s historic coaching career in New England he made a mistake. A mistake that cost the Patriots a game against the Colts in Week 10! Not in the playoffs, nothing on the line at all, just another game in Week 10. Granted it was a huge mistake that made many fans in New England scratching their heads on Monday morning but Belichick took a gamble and the gamble didn’t pay off.

Unlike most teams this mistake will not send this team spiraling out of playoff contention. They will learn from their mistake and will most definitely never do it again as long as Bill Belichick is the coach for the Pats. The game proved that New England is an AFC heavyweight and could even defeat Indy if the two meet again in a playoff matchup.

You just have to tip the hat to Peyton Manning and the Colts for having the strength and know how to get the win on Sunday night. The victory for the Colts is very motivating as they continue their undefeated streak this season and improving to 9-0. The play from Peyton and the Colts shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone; this is the type of play we’ve seen from the league’s best Quarterback every single season. As a Football fan, I can only pray to the football gods that we see this matchup again and with a berth to the Super Bowl on the line.
