TNA Impact 1-14-10 Thoughts and Recap

January 16, 2010 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA ImpactLast Thursday evening, TNA Wrestling presented their final episode of IMPACT before their first PPV on the new year, Genesis. With little to no matches announced for TNA Genesis before this night, how did TNA attempt to virtually build an entire card in one night? Let’s get to the review, and we’ll find out!

Generation Me Defeated The Motor City Machine Guns

For those of you who don’t already know, Generation Me is the team of The Young Bucks, as they’re known throughout the independent circuit. To my surprise, this match was given plenty of time, and featured great, great aerial action throughout, with Generation Me hitting their trademark maneuvers and double teams formally seen in the independents. These two young men also had some new ring attire, sporting some black jeans with chain, similar to the Hardy Boys look when they first entered the WWE. I was also pleasantly surprised when Generation Me picked up the victory following their AMAZING finisher, a sommersault drop into a 450 splash from one of the brothers, followed by a moonsault from the other! Great young time, with endless potential!

Next, Kurt Angle came out to the ring, and announced that it would be himself vs. AJ Styles one last time at Genesis for the title. AJ then came out, and talked about how this would be Kurt’s last title shot of 2010. AJ and Kurt preceded to cut a promo together, and shook hands agreeing to find out who truly is the best wrestler in the business at Genesis. Again, come Genesis, this should be another incredible match between two world class professional wrestlers! As the segment came to an end, the masked man who has been attacking AJ over the last couple of months, came out, laid AJ out, and revealed himself to be Tomko, as many of us already suspected. It was announced that these two would face one on one for the title in the main event of the evening.

Hamada And Awesome Kong Defeated Madison Rayne And Velvet Sky

Before this match officially began, we saw the return of Angelina Love, who was sitting at ringside. What a crappy way to have her return! Couldn’t they have done this is some sort of a surprising fashion at Genesis? Anyway, this was basically just a short little squash type of match, to put over the new tag champs, Kong and Hamada, as a true force to be reckoned with, in the ranks of the Knockout’s tag devision. After the match, Angelina Love jumped the rail, and ran into the ring to check on her former stable members, but to everyone’s surprise, she attacked both Rayne and Sky, beating them both out of the ring and at ringside as well! At least this was a surprise! Could be an interesting enough feud between these ladies.

Team 3D Defeated Lethal Consequences

Immediately, Team 3D hit the 3D, and then got the quick pin. This was basically just done to setup the aftermath involving the Nasty Boys, who were still trashing Team 3D’s locker room this week. Team 3D ran backstage, and smashed open their locker room door with an axe! They were then attacked from behind from the Nasty Boys, who left them laying. As I have said before, this could be a decent little feud, with a lot of tag team history involved. These two teams could also have a few stiff, hardcore matches together, although I don’t think they will have a match at Genesis, for nothing has been said about that yet. Once again, I have no problem with TNA putting these two veteran teams in a feud together, so long as the major focus of the company is the young talent.

After this segment, Sean Morley came out to the ring, and announced that he would be doing some directing, through TNA films. Probably some “adult films”. LOL! He was soon interrupted by Daniels, who cut Morley down, claiming that he wasn’t about to loose his spot to some old veteran just waltzing his way into TNA. Daniels eventually attacked Morley, giving him the BME. Morley preceded to fight back, and ended up clotheslining Daniels to the outside. As i said previously in my Genesis preview, with only one segment to set this PPV match up, they did a pretty decent job of creating an interesting enough story-line between the two, and their match at genesis should be fairly entertaining at the very least.

Beer Money INC And Matt Morgan And Hernandez Ended In No Contest

After only about 2 minutes or so of wrestling, Rob Terry came out and brawled to the back with Hernandez, which let to the no contest finish. Decent way to lead up to the Morgan/Hernandez vs. British Invasion tag title bout at Genesis, at the last minute. Earlier in the evening, Beer Money went into Eric Bischoff’s office, and demanded a match with “The Band”, formerly known as the NWO, so they could prove that they are the top, elite tag team in professional wrestling today. Now, as they stood in the center of the ring, they were attacked by “The Band” and beaten down. The men were eventually separated by security. These two teams will know officially go at it this Sunday. As I said in my preview, why isn’t Sean Waltman in this match? He’s obviously in the best shape of the three. Anyway, this should be an alright match, but would really make me happy if Beer Money went over. Will Beer Money in fact go over, or will “The Band” get the win, and prove that Hulk Hogan sticks with the click?

Desmond Wolfe Defeated Samoa Joe

“The Pope”, who Wolfe will face at Genesis, did some color commentary during Wolfe’s match with Samoa Joe, and the two intensely locked eyes after Wolfe got the win, in what was a decent match, but really could have been a great match had it been given a more plentiful amount of time. I like that Wolfe is now in the winning column once again, but I can;t help but feel that Samoa Joe, who was once the top guy in the TNA, is getting the shaft lately, although he does have that world title shot briefcase, so I guess he’ll be in the main events after the AJ/Kurt deal is all said and done.

AJ Styles (C) Defeated Tomko To Retain His TNA World Heavyweight Championship

After all of these months of this mystery attacker jumping AJ, he’s finally revealed to be AJ’s former friend Tomko, and AJ beats him in 5 minutes with a Pele? TNA will probably continue this feud after Genesis, with Tomko potentially costing AJ the title, or else this whole thing would have been a complete waste of time. If we end up seeing Kurt win the belt, I predict that AJ will go on to feud with Tomko, and Angle will feud with either Desmond Wolfe or Samoa Joe over the title. During this match, Ric Flair was a special guest on commentary. Two weeks in TNA, and Flair hasn’t even stepped inside the ring to do so much as cut a promo? Seems that TNA has been misusing Flair lately. Anyway, after AJ got the win, Tomko continued the beat down, until Kurt Angle ran out and saved him. Kurt attempted to shake AJ’s hand, but AJ blew him off, storming angrily to the back. Nice way to create more tension between these two, leading into their match at Genesis.

Overall, this was a decent episode of IMPACT, and really did a good job of promoting Genesis at the last minute. This shows that TNA has the ability to work on their toes if necessary. They also did a good job of hyping the huge superstar who will be debiting for TNA Sunday. Chances are, it’s going to be Ken Anderson, but I’m hoping it will be RVD! TNA may also throw a curveball, and have it be Sid Vicious, who has been in talks with those within TNA for quite some time now. Anyway, TNA had a good go home show here, and I look forward to the surprises Genesis brings!

TNA New Year’s Knockout Eve Review

January 01, 2010 By: Todd Frizzell Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA ImpactFirst, let me start off by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year! With just a mere few day until the Monday Night return, TNA presented this special 4 hour addition of IMPACT. Let’s get started!

Hamada Def. Madison Rayne

In the first match of the night’s special tournament, Hamada defeated Madison Rayne in about 5 minutes with the Hamada Driver. Solid performance from both women. A few botched spots, but pretty solid nevertheless. Being a big fan of Hamada, I was really hoping she’d win the entire tournament.

Traci Brooks Def. ODB

Kind of strange pairing here, considering both women are heels, at least I think they’re both heels. It looks like TNA is loosing interest with Brooks, which doesn’t bother me considering I’ve never been a huge fan of hers. In my opinion, this was a very bland match, but did an alright job of telling a story. Predictably, ODB got the win in just over 5 minutes with the TKO.

Roxxi Def. Velvet Sky

I don’t have much to say about this, for it only went for about 2 minutes or so. For the very short duration, it was defiantly watchable action. As one would expect, Roxxi picked up the quick win with her Voodoo Drop, which I’ll admit is my all time favorite finisher from a female professional wrestler anywhere in the United States! After the match, Lacey Von Erich came out and attacked Roxxi. Looks like we’re going to get another Roxxi/Beautiful People feud, which I have no major problems with.

TNA Match Of The Year- Desmond Wolfe vs. Kurt Angle from Turning Point

This was an obvious choice for one of the TNA matches of the year. Classic match between two world class professional wrestlers. TNA decided to show this match in its entirety, including the entrances, which was a very refreshing change of pace, considering that WWE only shows portions of their matches when they show the best matches of the year. Again, this was my second time watching this match, and it was even better the second time! Awesome WRESTLING here!

Awesome Kong Def. Daffney

This was basically a 2 or 3 minute squash, with Kong picking up the easy win with the Implant Buster. Kong hasn’t gotten much of a push lately, which needs to change, so I’m glad she went over here. I just wish TNA would push Daffney as well.

Taylor Wilde and Sarita (C) Def. Lorelai and April Hunter

The British Invasion were out for commentary here, which was quite comical at times, especially when they stated that Sarita and Taylor Wilde are possible contenders for their titles. LOL! I’m glad TNA is starting to give the Brits some more air time, for they have a very fair amount of talent and personalities. Anyway, this match was decent, but was far too short, lasting only about 2 minutes or so. Wilde and Sarita won with some impressive double teaming. I guess this was a fair enough way of reestablishing the Knockout Tag Team Champions as worthy title holders.

TNA Match Of The Year- AJ Styles (C) vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from Turning Point

Again, another very obvious choice for matches of the year. Much like Wolfe vs. Angle, this match was shown in its entirety, which was great! Another classic TNA match, this time with a different style of wrestling than the technical excellence of Wolfe and Angle. This was the type of match that put TNA on the professional wrestling map. This was a classic X division style show stealer. Great addition to the 4 hours of IMPACT this week!

Roxxi Def. Hamada

In this semi final matchup, Hamada picked up the win in just over 7 minutes with a roll up. This was a pretty good match, and was given plenty of time. Both Knockouts looked very good here. I’m really glad Hamada went over here, and again, I was hoping to God she would win the entire tournament.

ODB Def. Awesome Kong

In my opinion, this was a fairly entertaining matchup, with two women who share a similar, hard hitting style. Again, this match was given plenty of time, lasting close to the 10 minute mark. After what was a pretty good match, to my disappointment, ODB got the pin with a shot with her flask behind the referee’s back. Damn it! I was starting to realistically believe that Kong would advance to the finals, but no such luck.

TNA Match Of The Year- Sting vs. AJ Styles (C) for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from Bound For Glory

This was a fairly strange choice, for matches like Angle and Jarrett or Angle vs. Morgan would have been a better choice. This was still a good match though.

ODB Def. Hamada To Win The Tournament

This match, which was the final match in the tournament, and was very good, lasting nearly 15 minutes! Again, another stiff, hard hitting match between these two rough necks. At one point, Hamada went for the moonsault onto ODB who was on a table, but ODB avoided the impact. Cool Spot! ODB rolled Hamada into the ring, gave her a TKO, and got the win. Damn! I was REALLY, REALLY hoping that Hamada would go over here. After the match, ODB and Tara got into a brawl, and had to be separated by security. It’s not like I have a problem with these two’s story line/feud, it’s their match. They had a pretty dull match at Final Resolution, and I believe their are plenty of other talented women, like Hamada or even Flash, that could put on great matches with Tara.

*Overall, this was a thoroughly entertaining 4 hours, and was time well spent. I’m just disappointed about ODB winning the tournament.

TNA Impact 12-10-09 Thoughts And Opinions

December 11, 2009 By: Todd Frizzell Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA ImpactThis past Thursday night, another addition of TNA IMPACT aired, just days after the big “WWE vs. TNA Monday Night War” announcement. What went down? Let’s begin, and we’ll soon find out!

IMPACT began with an in ring promo from Kevin Nash, who announced that he would be in charge for the evening. In a promo previous to this, Mick Foley left the IMAPCT Zone to meet Hulk Hogan at the “airport”. This left Nash running things for the evening. Nash announced the “biased” card for the evening, and that was that.

British Invasion vs. Chris Sabin in a Handicap Match

This unfair match, was made because of Nash’s affiliation with the World Elite. This match was short and to the point, seeing Sabin single handily take out the British Invasion, eventually picking up the victory with a tornado DDT into a small package to Rob Terry. WOW! Chris Sabin cleanly beats all three members of the British Invasion? If the Brits weren’t completely meaningless before, the certainly are now. I guarantee you, the Guns will win the titles at Final Resolution, and if they don’t, make another check mark in the book of TNA’s ignorant booking strategies!

Scott Steiner and Awesome Kong vs. Bobby and Crystal Lashley

After the typical “big man brawling”, we saw from Bobby and Scott, Bobby was knocked to the outside. Crystal was then caught in the grasp of Kong, who gave her a body slam, and then ascended to the top turnbuckle (If Kong had actually splashed Crystal, I swear she would have killed her!). Before Kong could leave her feet, Steiner pinned Crystal, doing push ups (with sexual intent) over her fallen body. Steiner and Kong were victorious. This did a really good job, of heating up the Steiner/Lashley feud, and I can’t wait for the psychological battle of attrition, we’re going to see at Final Resolution!

Eric Young vs. Hamada for the TNA Global Championship

I thought the Global Championship was never to be defended on US soil? Nash made this exception, so whatever. Before I discuss this match up, let me talk a bit about the Global title. In my opinion, this could be a great opportunity for TNA to bring in international talent, and represent themselves internationally, to give TNA more culture and exposure. Anyway, even though this was a very brief match, Hamada showed that she’s got what it takes to go with guys! After missing a top rope moonsault, Young retained the title with assistance from the ropes.

ODB vs. Tara in a Trailor Park Throwdown

I don’t personally understand why these two had a match on IMPACT, when they’re obviously going to have a title match at Final Resolution. However, this was a very entertaining hardcore match, that you’ll never, and I mean never, see from the WWE Divas( Keep in mind, that both women had to consume a 6 pack before the match began!). After the usage of cookie sheets, trashcans, Tiki Torches (yes, I said Tiki Torches), ladders, and chairs. At one point in the match, Tara even hit a standing moonsault, with a trashcan over the head of ODB! ODB got the win, after executing a face buster onto Tara, onto a chair. Good match. At Final Resolution, we should get another solid showing from the TNA Knockouts!

Team 3D, Jesse Neal, and Rhino vs. Hernandez, Matt Morgan, and Suicide

As announced from the mouth of Kevin Nash, whoever got pinned here, would have to wrestle alone, at Final Resolution, for 5 minutes. Again, whatever. Before the match began, Team 3D commented on how “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero wouldn’t be making it for the match tonight. Jesse Neal wore “Popes” Jacket as a trophy. This was a very good booking move, furthering the story line between these two teams. After some pretty decent action from all men involved in this contest, Hernandez hit the Border Toss, but was then speared/gored by Rhino the second…I mean, Jesse Neal. Hernandez will now have to start alone for 5 minutes, at Final Resolution. Obviously a good choice here, for Hernandez is notorious for fighting off multiple combatants all at once. After the match, the heels continue their beat down, until “Pope” comes limping out, chasing them away single handily. Really? 1 injured guy chases off 4 healthy guys? Very realistic!

Velvet Sky vs. Lacey Von Erich in a Mud Wrestling Match

Although I think this kind of stuff should be reserved for “Divas”, my lord, everyone watching IMPACT were winners here! All we saw in this match, was Sky and Von Erich rolling around in the mud, wearing skimpy outfits. Hey, what more could you ask for! Thank you for making this match, Mr. Nash!

Throughout the entire evening, we were shown video clips of Mick Foley visiting Jeff Jarrett. From his own home, to the local diner in Henderson-ville Tennessee, Foley looked high and low for Jarrett. Finally, Foley finally found Jarrett, and they agree to “deal with Dixie”. Does this mean Jarrett is going to return to TNA? I’m slightly interested to see how this ends up.

AJ Styles (C) vs. Desmond Wolfe for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship

Earlier in the night, Nash promised to give a title shot, to whomever the highest bidder was! Damn Nash is GREEDY! After a pretty good match between these two, which could have been great if given more time, AJ got the win, after Daniels came out and intentionally distracted Wolfe, allowing AJ to get the roll up. Daniels told Wolfe, that AJ’s title was his, and the two begin to brawl. They are eventually separated by security. Why are these two starting to feud, when Wolfe has a big match with Angle at Final Resolution, and Daniels has one with AJ? Makes no sense!

Overall, this was another so-so addition of IMPACT, which seemed very unfocused and unrealistic at times. I’d give this weeks show a letter grade of a B-.

TNA Impact 12-03-09 Thoughts And Opinions

December 05, 2009 By: Todd Frizzell Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA ImpactJust a mere 2 weeks way from TNA’s next Pay Per View extravaganza, Final Resolution, TNA brought us another addition of IMPACT on Spike TV. Was the show awesome? Was it average? Did it suck bad? We’ll, let get started with the review and find out!

IMPACT began with Desmond inside the 6 Sides Of Steel Cage, cutting a promo cutting down Kurt Angle, as well a challenging him to a rematch at Final Resolution. At Final Resolution, it will be Desmond Wolfe vs. Kurt Angle in a 3 levels of pain match. The match will be contested inside the cage, with the first fall consisting of pin falls only, the second fall with submissions only, and the third fall can only be won by escaping the cage. You think this might be a little gimmicky? Forget the gimmicks, and just let these two wrestle! Besides, another cage match? didn’t we have a cage match last month at Turning Point? Anyway, out came Kurt Angle, and climbed into the cage, only to be knocked out by Wolfe, thanks to a first full of brass (brass knuckles). I really like the feud between these two, but enough with the overbooking!

Alex Shelly vs. Doug Williams

As we all know, The Motor City Machine Guns will face The British Invasion at Final Resolution, for the TNA Tag Team Championships. This was a preview for that match, and expect to Sabin vs. Magnus next week. Although Williams looked a little sloppy at times, this was a decent little 5 minute match. Shelly eventually got the pin with Sliced Bread. Expect the MCMG to win the titles at Final Resolution, for if they got the win here, they have a good chance of winning at Final Resolution. But remember, this is TNA! Expect the unexpected, and throw logic out the window!

Suicide vs. Homicide

Recently, Homicide announced that he is aware of Suicide’s true identity. When the hell are we getting our payoff with this feud, if you could call it that? One week TNA advances their feud/story line, and the next week all is forgotten. Come on TNA! Get it together! After a fairly decent 5 minutes of action, Suicide got the win, with a backslide. After the final bell, Homicide attacked Suicide, and tried to unmask him, but “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero made the save. Before this match, it was announced that Matt Morgan, “The Pope”, Hernandez, and a partner of their choosing would face Team 3D, Rhino, and Jesse Neal, in an elimination match up at Final Resolution (should be good). Also before this match, “The Pope” approached Suicide, and asked him to be apart of the team. Suicide gave no conclusive answer, because of the battles he’s had with “The Pope” in the past. After making the save, “The Pope” extends his hand to Suicide, but Suicide walks out on him, leaving him hanging.

Next, we witnessed ODB’s “Trash Talking” show. She had Tara as a guest, who will face her at Final Resolution for the Knockout’s Championship. Eventually, ODB attacked Tara, resulting in Tara running away almost in tears. First off, Tara needs to stop being so emotional. Second, why would she run away from ODB? Wasn’t she just in a feud with Kong where they had to be separated by security several times? Makes no sense.

Jesse Neal vs. “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero

Boy, does Jesse Neal look like a completely different person or what? He’s seemed to have gotten a lot bigger too. Although he’s not that great in the ring, he’s defiantly a lot better than he was the last time we saw him. He’s covered with tattoos now. He almost reminds me of Tomko. After only about 3 minutes or so, “The Pope” got the win, with his running exposed knees into the back patented finisher. After the match, Neal attacked and beat down “The Pope”. Meanwhile, the lights went out, and Suicide appeared on the top rope, delivering a top rope dropkick onto Neal, making the save. “The Pope ” and Suicide shook hands, implying that Suicide will in fact join Pope’s team at Final Resolution. Then, out of nowhere, came Team 3D and Rhino, who surrounded them. Out came Hernandez and Morgan to make the save. I’m thoroughly looking forward to this big 8 man tag team elimination match at Final Resolution, but why is Suicide involved with this when he seems to entering a feud with Homicide? TNA needs to make sure to conserve their focus completely.

Eric Young and Kevin Nash vs. Beer Money INC.

I still can’t seem to understand why Kevin Nash is involved with the World Elite. He’s from Detroit for heaven’s sake! As far as this match went, it was a pretty formula match up, which seemed to pick up in the final few minutes or so. Nash and Young go the win, after Young gave Rude a low blow, and then gave him a piledriver. Looks like the two teams may fight again at Turning Point, which should be decent at best. After the match, Mick Foley came out, asking Nash all kinds of questions about what Hulk Hogan’s role in TNA is going to be. Nash chewed Foley up, stating that Foley’s going to loose his job. Maybe Foley’s been paranoid for a legitimate reason. A really funny quote from Nash was when Foley asked Nash if he had Hulk’s phone number. Nash said he did, but Hulk said not to five it to him! LOL! Speaking of Foley, aren’t he and Abyss suppose to be in a big feud with Dr. Stevie and Raven? Again, come on TNA! Stay focused! At the ended of the segment, Nash stated that “the band’s getting back together”. This basically hints that the NWO will be returning. You’ve got to be kidding me! This will really help push the younger guys! WOW! What a crock! TNA seriously needs to stop trying to relive history. They need to create their OWN history! TNA just has an awesome Pay Per View last month, and all the matches involved the young guys. Everyone was happy, where as everyone was pissed as hell, when TNA used to stink up the place when they’d use all the old guys on Pay Per View. I really don’t think TNA can recognise the difference between failure and success. WOW!

Next, Lashley came out with Crystal, and cut a promo on Steiner. At Final Resolution, it will be Lashley vs. Steiner again. Should be a watchable match, with an interesting story line.

Abyss vs. Daniels

Why would these two be paired together? Anyway, AJ Styles was out as a special guest commentator for the match. After about 3 minutes or so, Abyss was distracted by a video playing on the big screen, of The Beautiful People harassing Lauren. This was setup by Daniels earlier in the night. Daniels then got the pin with a roll up. Daniles is challenging for the world title in 2 weeks, and he needs to cheat to win? In my opinion. this makes him seem unworthy, and makes it unrealistic for the viewer to actually believe that he can beat AJ. After the match, AJ charged to the ring after a taunting Daniels, but was attacked by his mystery attacker once again. Once again, TNA really needs to keep focus. Wait until after Final Resolution to push this new story line. If the mystery man ends up being Tomko, I’m going to be pretty pissed, seeing as though his return was revealed a few weeks ago. Hopefully, this will be more of a surprise.

Next, we witnessed the very special Dixie Carter interview. Throughout the course of the interview, she basically stated the obvious. Hulk Hogan is going to be working closely with her and TNA management, in hopes that TNA will eventually become the biggest and best wrestling company in the world. Nothing special here, just Dixie stating what we already know from the Internet. After this interview, Mick Foley was shown on the phone, with who sounded to be Jeff Jarrett. Jeff didn’t sound very happy. Almost like a shoot. Speaking of Jarrett, Dixie addressed him in her interview as well. She said he was asked to leave TNA because of personal issues. If I were Jerrett, the man who founded TNA, and was kicked out of the company I founded, I’d be pissed!

Hamada vs. Sarita

Now, we had a TNA Knockouts match, featuring Hamada taking on Sarita. This was a pretty good match, once again putting the WWE Divas to shame! Hamada got the win with the Hamada Driver. Over the past couple of weeks, Hamada seems to have gotten a decent push. I look forward to seeing her vie for the TNA Knockouts Championship in the near future. Her and ODB could have some pretty damn good matches!

Kurt Angle vs. Dr. Stevie and Raven

This matched was announced by Foley, who was mad at Angle, for not giving him enough information about Hogan earlier that night, and questioning his authority. Why would Foley put Angle in a match with his enemies, Raven and Dr. Stevie? Again. makes no sense at all. This match was obviously not booked for wrestling action, but to advance story lines and such. At one point in the match, Abyss came out to help Angle. Angle ended up winning with the ankle lock on Raven. After the match, Desmond Wolfe came out, and beats Angle down, before leaving to a chorus of boos.

Overall, this was a decent addition of IMPACT. In my opinion, it lacked actual wrestling action, however, the story lines were interesting for the most part, and Final Resolution is looking to be a solid show as well. Overall, I would give this show a letter grade of a B.

TNA Impact 11-26-09 Thoughts And Opinions

November 27, 2009 By: Todd Frizzell Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA ImpactLast night, TNA IMPACT presented their annual TNA Turkey Bowl, where a tournament took place, with the winner receiving a title shot for their respective division. I love one night tournaments, and I was very excited for this event!

Bobby Lashley vs. Abyss in a 1st round matchup

This was a standard, formula match, lasting only about 5 minutes. Although I’m not a huge Lashley fan, damn that man can jump! Lashley got the win with a spear, after Abyss was distracted by Crystal, who was inadvertently elbowed by him. Overall, an alright way to start off the night.

Desmond Wolfe vs. Suicide in another 1st round matchup

This match was defiantly an oddly paired match, yet intriguing at the same time. These two put on a pretty good little match, which featured an interesting clash of styles, with Suicide bringing the ariel offense, and Wolfe grounding him with his British/Puro expertise. After about 5 minutes, Desmond Wolfe got the win with a Tower Of London, which was botched a bit by Suicide, but was executed fair enough.

“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. Kurt Angle in another 1st round matchup

Of all the unique matches booked for this show, this match was defiantly the one I was looking forward to the most. The two put on a really good match, going about 7 minutes. Even thought Angle picked up the win with an Angle Slam, this match really put “The Pope” at another level, in TNA’s roster status. I could defiantly see “The Pope” as a main event guy in the near future, and I think he’d make a great TNA World Heavyweight Champion some day.

Homicide vs. Robert Rude in another 1st round matchup

I am really glad that TNA decided to put Robert Rude in this tournament. If he had ended up winning the whole thing, he wouldn’t get a world title shot, but a tag title shot with fellow Beer Money Incorporated teammate James Storm. Rude us a TNA original, and a very promising individual in my eyes. As much as I love the team of Beer Money, I think the time has come for TNA to split Rude and Storm up, and push them as major singles stars. I could see both men, especially Robert Rude, as future TNA World Heavyweight Champions. Speaking of Rude, ever since the first day I laid eyes on this man, I knew that he’d be the future of TNA. He’s got the look, the ability, and charisma, and all the other tools it takes for a major professional wrestling star. This man is the future of this business, mark my words! As far as this match went, it was a solid 5 minutes of faced paced wrestling, with Rude getting the win, with a high angle spine buster.

Traci Brooks vs. Hamada vs. Alissa Flash vs. Velvet Sky vs. Lacey Von Erich vs. Madison Rayne vs. Sarita vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Tara vs. Daffney in a Knockouts Battle Royal with ODB as the special ref, where the winner receives a Knockout title shot at Final Resolution

This match went about 7 minutes, and was far more entertaining than the WWE Divas Mayflower Melee match on RAW this past week! When Traci Brooks and Alissa Flash were eliminated, they battled it out on the floor, eventually having to be separated. Why are these two feuding? It seems pointless. I’m a big fan of Flash, and would love to see her as the TNA knockouts Champion, but let’s be honest, Brooks has got to go! Anyway, Tara got the predictable win after eliminating Velvet Sky, who looked pretty bad in this one. No, I’m not talking about her appearance, I’m talking about her wrestling ability. Appearance wise, she looked great! Boy, I love her entrance. It’s got to be the highest rated segment of the show! LOL! After the match, tension slowly began to build between Tara and ODB, who should have a pretty good match for the title, at Final Resolution.

Desmond Wolfe vs. Bobby Lashley in a Semi-Final matchup

This was a decent match, with some very good submission wrestling put on display. Lashley’s MMA background really came in handy here. After about 5 minutes or so, Wolfe got himself disqualified, when he didn’t break the 5 count, as he had an arm bar on Lashley in the ropes. Despite what anyone says, this was a fine enough way to end this match. It gave Lashley the win, without hurting Wolfe’s status. After the match, Wolfe said that he’s see Angle at Final Resolution. I’m glad these two are having another match on Pay Per View, and It should be another classic.

Kurt Angle vs. Robert Rude in a Semi-Final matchup

Wow, what a match! These two put on a great 10 minute match, really putting Rude over as a big time player. At the conclusion of the match, Desmond Wolfe came out, causing Angle to charge and attack him. The ref reached the 10 count, and Angle lost the match via count out. This was a perfect way for Rude to advance, and a perfect way to further the feud between Wolfe and Angle.

Next, the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles, cam to the ring and cut a promo. He initially asked Sting to return his phone calls, but was immediately interrupted by Daniels, who will face AJ for the TNA title at Final Resolution. Daniels cut his typical heel promo he’s been doing as of late, and blamed AJ for his lack of success in TNA. The promo ended with AJ telling Daniels that he will find out what he’s all about, come Final Resolution! I’m really looking forward to this match at the Pay Per View, and I’m really glad to see TNA, putting these young guys out there in the main event. Keep it up TNA!

Throughout the entire evening, Mick Foley was shown backstage, frantically trying to figure out if Hulk Hogan is going to replace him, and who Hogan is going to bring with him. Over the past several weeks, Kevin Nash has hinted, that Hogan is not coming alone. I’m going to go out on a limb, and say he’s bringing Ric Flair with him. Lately, rumors have been circulating the net, that Flair is on his way to TNA, and that he desperately need the money. I think the mystery man, Hogan’s bringing in, is very realistically going to be Flair. Bringing in two 60 year olds is really going to assist with the new direction TNA is going in? Get real TNA!

Robert Rude vs. Bobby Lashley in the Finals

Although this wasn’t very long, it was a pretty decent match, with plenty of false finishes. Lashley ended up getting the win with a spear. Personally, I was really hoping Rude would go over here. Although I wouldn’t have had Lashley win here, he has been looking much better lately, and could possibly have some good matches with AJ or Daniels, whomever wins the title at Final Resolution. Personaly, I still would have put over a younger guy. I don’t particularly look forward to seeing Lashley in the main event scene, but I guess it’s better than someone like Kevin Nash or Hulk Hogan in the main event!

Overall, this was a great addition of TNA IMPACt, with tons of great wrestling action, and story line advancement. If TNA keeps this up, they are definanlty moving in the right direction. Next week, it is announced that there will be an interview with TNA President Dixie Carter, on Hogan’s involvement in TNA. Should be interesting. Also, don’t forget to follow Dixie on Twitter! Wait, I thought she said that she wanted to stay off of television/ out of the limelight? Guess not! Overall, I would give this great addition of IMPACT an A-.

TNA Wrestling Turning Point Review

November 17, 2009 By: Todd Frizzell Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

TNA Turning Point 2009Ever since the very first Turning Point event, back in 2004, TNA has used this Pay Per View, to really swing for the fences, and deliver on a major level. Remember at Turning Point 2004, when Elix Skipper walked across the top of the 6 Sides of Steel and hit a super hurricanrana? If that has any implication on how historic Turning Point Pay Per Views have been in the past, than this event should have been no less historic. Did it live up to the hype? Let’s get started with the review, and you’ll find out! Also, this is the first Pay Per View after Dixie Carter’s “It’s time to shake things up” speech, and the big Hulk Hogan announcement.

The Amazing Red (C) vs. Homicide for the X Division Championship

All I can say here, is what a great way to kick off a TNA Per Per View! These two were given plenty of time, and really put on a tremendous wrestling match, with plenty of false finishes, and fast paced action throughout. This is what the X Division is all about, and what TNA needs to capitalize on in order to separate themselves from the WWE. Red retained the title, in about 15 minutes with Code Red from the middle rope. Again, great way to open up the show! (***1/2)

The Beautiful People vs. ODB (C), Taylor Wilde (C), and Sarita (C) with all titles on the line

Besides the overbooking aspect of this match, with all titles being on the line, this was a solid match, which did a fine enough job of showcasing the diversity of the TNA Knockouts. At one point during the match, there was a huge “You can’t wrestle” chant, directed at Lacey Von Erich. LOL! Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky seem to be improving, so hopefully some of that rubs off onto Lacey. ODB and the tag champs looked good as always. Again, a decent 5 minute outing. (**)

The British Invasion (C) vs. Beer Money vs. The Motor City Machine Guns for the TNA Tag Team Championships

As I had expected, with the talent involved, this match was very good, with tons of great action throughout the entire duration. The crowd was all for the Guns. Also, it seemed that Beer Money is loosing popularity with the fans, so in my opinion, they should either turn heel soon, or begin their singles careers. I could defiantly see both men as future TNA World Champions, especially Robert Rude. After about 15 minutes, Kevin Nash comes out, and ends up hitting James Storm in the skull with Eric Young’s Global Championship, and consequently, costs Beer Money the victory, when The Brits get the win with their patented electric chair/European uppercut combo. Is Nash in the World Elite now? If so, this makes no sense at all, considering the fact that Nash is from Detroit, although I’d get a kick out of seeing him in one of those gay World Elite sweatsuits! After the match, Nash says that he did that, to make Hogan proud. If TNA tries to bring Hogan in, and involve him in a story line with other old veterans, I’ll crap myself. Please TNA, don’t do it! Although the after effects of this match, still need to be further explained on IMPACT, this was a very good match. (***1/2)

Awesome Kong vs. Tara in the 6 Sides of Steel

WOW! I can’t believe this was a match between two females. The WWE Divas have got nothing on the Knockouts, especially Kong and Tara. This was a very good cage match, for anyone, even if it was between two males. Kong and Tara really proved that they can go, and even compete with the guys. This bout went around 10 minutes, with tons of great action, and use of the cage. Tara eventually got the pin, with a body press from the top of the cage! Sick bump! I’m really glad Tara went over here, and I hope to see more from these two in the future. (***3/4)

Team 3D and Rhino vs. Hernandez, “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero, and Matt Morgan

Next up, we got the Main Event Mafia vs. The Frontline…I mean, 3D and Rhino vs. Hernandez, Pope, and Morgan. If this is, a smaller version of the MEM/Frontline feud, TNA better do it right, and use the older guys, to put over the younger guys, as the future of the company. As far as the match itself goes, it was a pretty good bout, with a lot of impressive spots, mainly from The Pope, who put on a great performance. We also got to see Hernandez do his flying dive over the top, to the outside. No matter how many times I watch that same spot, it very ceases to amaze me! After about 15 minutes, Team 3D and Rhino cheat to get the win, with an illegal chair shot, followed by a gore. I have no problem with the older guys getting the win here, as long as the younger guys end up winning this feud, which will most likely continue. Again, pretty good match. (***1/4)

Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner in a No DQ/Falls Count Anywhere match

As I had stated in my preview, these two aren’t the best wrestlers in the world, but with their current story line with one another, this match should have told a great story. I’m glad they turned this into a match with no rules, which obviously made things more interesting, with both men’s brawling styles. Throughout the course of the match, both men exchanged several chair shots, and Steiner also received a suplex through a table, in the backstage area. After about 10 minutes if decent action, Steiner got the win, after cracking Lashley over the head with a led pipe. Again, this was decent, but could have told a better story, had Crystal Lashley been directly involved. Hopefully, this feud will continue. (**3/4)

Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe

Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe, two of the greatest wrestlers in the entire United States, put on one hell of a wrestling match, or a wrestling clinic rather, and tore the roof off of the IMPACT ZONE! This match, was a great Puro match, something that TNA doesn’t do very often. It was almost a ROH style match up, which the fans greatly appreciated, chanting “This is Awesome ” more times than I can count! At one point in the match, Kurt Angle hit 6 consecutive belly to back suplexes! There were also tons of false finishes. Kurt Angle won the match, in about 20 minutes, with a side triangle choke. TNA took a risk, by giving the fans some great pure wrestling, and scored a grand slam! This will defiantly be a match of the year candidate. (****)

AJ Styles (C) vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship

5 years ago, these three revolutionized TNA Wrestling, when they had one of the greatest TNA matches of all time, at unbreakable 2004. This past Sunday, at Turning Point, they had their first rematch from that historical night, and they sure as hell didn’t disappoint! This match was absolutely awe inspiring, and was just as good, if not better, than their first match, 5 years ago. This was a 25 plus minute classic! During the match, there was a huge “Screw Hulk Hogan” chant, which I can understand, but Hulk Hogan in TNA could very well be a very good thing, if done properly. Hogan needs to be brought in, to get more viewers and exposure for TNA, but TNA needs to do the hard work, by putting on top of the line wrestling matches, like this main event, in order to actually gain new fans, who will keep watching. TNA needs to get to the point, where new viewers are not just Hulk Hogan fans, but new, true TNA fans! Going back to the match, all three men left it all in the ring, and put on one hell of an innovative contest, with AJ retaining with a 450 splash on Daniels. I hope to see more of AJ/Daniels in the future. (****1/2)

Just 2 mere weeks ago, TNA President, Dixie Carter, held a meeting, telling all the TNA wrestlers that it was time for a change, and time to swing for the fences. If this event had any implication as to what she meant, then I’m happy to say that I’m a TNA fan. Top to bottom, this was a great Pay Per View, and the best TNA show I’ve seen in years, event better than Bound For Glory, last month. Unbelievably, this show had 2 matches that I gave over 4 stars, and all the other matches on the card, were solid as well. I would give this show a 9/10. THIS IS A MUST SEE SHOW! TNA, has finally seemed to have found their niche, and as far as TNA is going to be perceived in the future, this was a major turning point! (9/10)
