WWE Elimination Chamber 2010 Preview and Picks

February 19, 2010 By: Chris Behringer Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

WWE Elimination Chamber 2010Continuing the abundance of gimmicked pay per view events, World Wrestling Entertainment presents its annual WWE Elimination Chamber PPV this Sunday. The event is being billed as “A Superstar’s Last Chance to Main Event WrestleMania”. With only 4 matches on the card, one can argue that the event is weak. Personally, I think SmackDown’s Elimination Chamber match alone is worth the money. Let’s look at the lineup:

For the Vacated Diva’s Championship:
Gail Kim vs. Maryse

I actually want to see this one. I’ve always been high on both women. Kim has been successful; winning the WWE Women’s Championship in her debut match as well as the TNA Knockouts Championship. She has the potential to make history by being the first woman to hold all 3 major women’s championships in the wrestling world today. Maryse plays the snooty b**ch role well & has natural charisma. I’m really enjoying her character as a tweener. This match will hopefully be a great offering between two of WWE’s ladies.

Predicted Winner: Maryse
Who Should Win: Maryse (Like I said. She is a strong heel & brings a lot to the table. Personally, I’d like to see ShowMiz turn into a stable with her joining. Gold.)

Intercontinental Title Match:
Drew McIntyre (C) vs. Kane

I don’t understand the appeal behind McIntyre. Maybe I’m blind…I don’t know. Kane is…well…Kane & has probably done all he’s going to do in WWE. In fact, I’m not sure why this match is on the PPV.

Predicted Winner: Kane via DQ
Who Should Win: Drew McIntyre CLEANLY (While I may not get the appeal behind him, push the young guy!)

World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match:
The Undertaker (C) vs. Chris Jericho vs. John Morrison vs. CM Punk vs. RTruth vs. Rey Mysterio

This is the money match right here IMO. Look for Morrison & RTruth to hopefully be given a chance to shine here. Having former World Champions in the match to possibly eliminate & to make them look stronger in the eyes of the fans is also a huge plus. But as good as the match looks, it’s also highly predictable.

Predicted Winner & New World Champion: Chris Jericho, leading to Y2J vs. Edge for the World Championship at WrestleMania.
Who Should Win: I think WWE should shock everyone & give Morrison a chance to run with the belt. There’s enough heat in the backstory between Edge & Jericho that they don’t need a title for their match.

WWE Championship Elimination Chamber Match:
Sheamus (C) vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Triple H vs. Ted DiBiase

If this match doesn’t scream “WrestleMania Foreshadowing”, I don’t know what does. Look for a set up to Orton/DiBiase at Mania & for Kofi to possibly get one up on Orton. As for who’s winning…

Predicted Winner & New WWE Champion: Randy Orton, leading to Orton vs. DiBiase for the WWE Title at Mania.
Who Should Win: Triple H, setting up Hunter vs. HBK for the WWE Title at WrestleMania (FORGET HBK/Taker 2…HHH/HBK for the belt at Mania is the money match. Lightning will not strike twice if HBK & Taker try to one up last year’s encounter.)

Inside The Wheelhouse: The Monday Night Wrestling Wars Are Back To Stay

February 15, 2010 By: Wheelhouse Radio Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

Dixie Carter and Hulk HoganThe wrestling world is a buzz as TNA has announced that on Monday night March 8th the Monday Night Wars will return. TNA and Spike TV have been working on getting a deal in place for TNA to air their flagship show “Impact” on Monday nights from 9pm to 11pm along side WWE’s Monday Night RAW. Once again we will see Hogan & Bischoff vs. The McMahons.

As a wrestling fan I couldn’t be happier because now it is forcing both companies to go all out for their fan base to make sure their fans tune in on Monday night. The initial TNA vs. WWE war on Monday night January 4th brought us Bret Hart back to the WWE, Hogan/Hardy/Flair/Hall/Waltman debuting or re-debuting in TNA. In just one night of wrestling action!

No question now that it has become official will we see the landscape of wrestling change as we enter into the new decade. I am not a fan of the TNA product, never truly have been even after some of my favorite Ring of Honor wrestlers debuted (Samoa Joe, Nigel McGuiness aka Desmond Wolfe, etc.). To me it reminds of a lesser WCW product now with Hogan and Bischoff at the helm.

I mean lets be honest The Nasty Boys were booked on the Against All Odds PPV this past Sunday night. Who wants to se the Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart together or even wrestle again? I guess it’s nice to have friends in higher places. But I digress.

What this Monday Night War will do is force WWE and TNA to promote newer/younger talent. If you remember thanks to newer/younger talent like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H and Mankind the WWE would regain & control the first Monday Night War with WCW. WCW at the time was still promoting Hogan, Savage, Nash and only one new talent…Goldberg. WCW is now a show on WWE On-Demand.

This will hopefully force WWE to strap the rocket ship to guys like Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, The Miz and Drew McIntyre; whom are all bound for super stardom in this decade. TNA already has the edge in the pushing younger talent department but no telling how long that could last under a Hogan/Bischoff regime. It’s almost as if they are pushing the younger guys right now in spite of everyone giving them hell for their past practices.

TNA has Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Desmond Wolfe and the guy WWE missed the boat with “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero (Elijah Burke in WWE). The next pay per view will be headlined by a Styles/Dinero main event for TNA which I think was a great move but may have been too quick for a guy who was sparingly used on WWE’s 3rd brand in ECW.

This new Monday Night War will not only push WWE & TNA creative to give us the best wrestling we can get it will also push the wrestlers to the next level. That’s what helped WWE win the first go around as the hard work of the Austin’s, Rock’s, Triple H’s and Foley’s of the WWE landscape helped them defeat WCW. It will be interesting to note who takes the ball and runs with it.

I’m excited for March 8th; I will be watching both shows and keeping an eye on what the wrestling landscape will look like in its first few months. I’m leaning towards WWE in this one because I’m just not a fan of the Hogan/Bischoff regime for TNA but I hope they can change my viewpoint. Time will obviously tell whether or not who will win the second Monday Night Wars.

Inside The Wheelhouse for June 10th, 2009: A main event waiting to happen

June 10, 2009 By: Wheelhouse Radio Category: WWE / Pro Wrestling

johnmorrisonWhen I was deciding the topic for my first blog here on camelcluchblog.com I had many topics I could cover as my “introduction” to the site and its readers. Should I write about the ongoing “Ric Flair wrestling again” news story that has dominated wrestling headlines this week? Or should I give my two cents on Ken Kennedy being released from World Wrestling Entertainment last week?

I was having writers…or I guess “blog block” going on with my first blog until I heard Jim Ross echo these words as the background noise of “Friday Night Smackdown” lay behind me.

“….is a Main Event waiting to happen.”

What a compliment to receive from one of, if not, the best Wrestling announcer of all-time. If he said it you know it meant something. The wrestler he was talking about is already a former World Champion, Intercontinental Champion Multiple Tag Team Champion and a Tough Enough (remember that show? I mean the MTV version not the stuff they did with Daniel Puder & The Miz.) Champion. The wrestler Jim Ross was referencing was “The Shaman of Sexy” John Morrison.

He entered the WWE on the screen of MTV winning Tough Enough III in 2003, was Eric Bischoff’s Assistant when he was General Manager of RAW, was an “A-Lister” with one of the better tag teams of this decade MNM, became Intercontinental Champion, managed Kevin “K-Fed” Federline, was ECW Champion, formed another one of the better tag teams of the decade with The Miz and is now a face on probably the best wrestling television show with Friday Night Smackdown.

It’s easy to compare him to a young Shawn Michaels, the guy has the “look” and he is a heck of an athlete in the squared circle. You have to give Michael Hayes and the creative team on the Smackdown brand credit for putting him in a feud with another great pure wrestling athlete in Shelton Benjamin. I’m hoping that one day a Morrison/Benjamin match will at one time headline a Wrestlemania.

Morrison is just entering his 30s and is clearly on the brink of a potentially huge push in 2009. If he is a upper mid-carder come Wrestlemania 26 I will not be surprised at all and if that is followed up at Wrestlemania 27 as a main eventer don’t be surprised either. Morrison clearly has the in-ring abilities to give you a “big time” and even “show stopping” match time in and time out. As he further improves on the “stick” and begins to gain more confidence and charisma he will begin to reach the “Main Event” status he is being groomed to be. Hopefully he will be able to fill the shoes of an “icon.”

Like Jim Ross said…”John Morrison is a main event waiting to happen.”
