Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione Rumored For UFC 113

January 19, 2010 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

kimbosliceUFC will move forward with one of its biggest ratings draws of 2009, Kimbo Slice. After winning his first UFC fight at the TUF Finale, Kimbo Slice is now rumored to face another fighter from The Ultimate Fighter 10. Conflicting reports indicate that Kimbo Slice’s next opponent will be the “brain rattled” former NFL player, Matt Mitrione at UFC 113.

I don’t think I have ever seen a fight on paper so manipulated in my life from the UFC. Obviously, this is a set up to give Kimbo a win. The lack of ground experience between both fighters should place this match right at the top of the local Tough Man contest. Slice’s previous fight against Houston Alexander was booked to be a standup war. This fight has no chance to be anything other than a standup war, considering that neither guy will have a clue as to what to do if it goes to the ground.

I can understand the Kimbo Slice experiment, but I don’t necessarily agree with it. UFC president Dana White was very outspoken about Slice before he fought in the UFC. He said the only way he would take Kimbo is if Kimbo entered TUF, which he did. Slice was a ratings bonanza for the show. Slice’s fight on the show against TUF winner Roy Nelson generated a 6.1 rating bringing in over five million UFC viewers. Slice may have lost the fight, but the UFC won the battle with a gigantic rating.

Following the fight, the show continued to tease for weeks that Slice would fight again. He never did and turned down a prospective opportunity, citing arthritis in the knee. White seemed to be stunned and angry about Slice’s decision. Slice was also exposed on the show for not having much of a ground game. Additionally, the explosiveness that most expected to see from Slice was left in those You Tube videos of Kimbo Slice fighting local guys for $1,500. The jury was out as to how valuable Kimbo would be to the UFC following the television show.

Kimbo Slice’s first official UFC fight came on The Ultimate Fighter 10 finale, live on Spike TV. Once again Slice was a ratings success. 5.2 million viewers tuned in to see Kimbo Slice beat Houston Alexander. Unfortunately those viewers were treated to one of the most ridiculous fights of the year. Alexander did everything he could to avoid contact and Slice won a very boring fight. Alexander was subsequently fired from the UFC following his performance in the fight, specifically his lack of engagement.

It was obvious that the UFC had a big problem with Kimbo. He is a proven draw, yet he is way out of his league fighting in the UFC. Between his lack of experience and his knee problems, the UFC was going to have a hard time getting a fight out of Kimbo that would live up expectations. I look at this proposed fight with Mitrione as a last ditch effort to save their investment.

I find the fight to be a bit of hypocrisy coming from the UFC. Dana White blasted Elite XC after Seth Petruzelli claimed he was offered more money to keep his fight with Slice on their feet. By firing Houston Alexander for not engaging with Slice, White is basically guilty of the same thing that he accused Elite XC of doing, which was manipulating a fight and hurting the integrity of the sport. At this point Alexander’s firing is well known and the word is out among Kimbo’s opponents that you better engage in a stand up war or there will be repercussions. It is practically the same thing and it goes against everything the UFC claims that MMA is about. Try defending this one to a UFC critic who says that the UFC is barroom fighting with no skill.

This is a golden opportunity for Matt Mitrione. Mitrione was arguably the most controversial fighter on TUF. Mitrione’s first fight on TUF was a great one, as he and Scott Junk had a standup slugfest. Following the fight, Mitrione did nothing but complain and even claimed at times that his “brain was rattled.” Mitrione was defeated in his next fight by James McSweeney, losing to a guillotine choke on the ground. Mitrione came back and won his first official UFC fight defeating Marcus Evans via knockout on the TUF 10 finale.

The fight is far from a done deal, yet there are plenty of reports that indicate that there is something to this matchup. If Kimbo Slice vs. Matt Mitrione does happen, the chances are pretty good that you will see a standup war between the two. Mitrione showed he had a great chin in that fight with Junk and should be able to hang with Kimbo. As for Kimbo, I just think that the arthritis in his knee will prevent fans from seeing the explosive Kimbo Slice that most MMA fans hoped to see in the UFC.

Regardless, I think Dana White will get his wish and at least have the fists flying at UFC 113 if this fight comes to fruition.

Kimbo and Roy Nelson Win On UFC TUF Finale

December 06, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

kimbo slice vs. roy nelsonThe UFC concluded its most anticipated The Ultimate Fighter season in history last night on Spike TV. The TUF 10 finale featured a TUF final as well as fights featuring fighters from the show. Roy Nelson and Kimbo Slice were the headliners from the show, both winning their UFC debuts. Slice beat Houston Alexander, while Neslon won the TUF finals and a six-figure UFC contract.

Don’t kid yourself into thinking that The Ultimate Fighter Season 10 wasn’t about Kimbo Slice. Slice was all over pre-show advertisements and even had a grand entrance into the show. The hype worked, as TUF turned out to be the most successful season in show history. On top of that, the first-round fight between Kimbo Slice and former IFL champion Roy Nelson was a massive ratings success. Between the first airing and subsequent replay, their fight drew an estimated 6.8 million viewers. Unfortunately the hype machine ended when Kimbo lost and was exposed to the more experienced Nelson.

The fight immediately put Roy Nelson on the radar of casual MMA fans. Casual fans didn’t give Nelson a chance due to his misleading physique. However, longtime MMA fans knew exactly what Nelson was capable of. On paper, it was almost unfair to the other inexperienced fighters to put someone as experienced as Nelson in the house. I wrote two months ago that the advantage was so huge in Nelson’s favor, that I suspected that Nelson was a ringer. Whether he was a ringer or not, the game plan worked as Nelson wound up coasting to the finals.

Nelson came into the fight last night against Brendan Schaub. Schaub, a former NFL player (practice squad) with little experience was no match against Nelson. Nelson is not only a former IFL champion, but is a high degree Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt withAbu Dhabi experience to boot. Schaub is a striker, who won all four of his professional MMA fights by either TKO or KO due to strikes. Nelson never showed any of his standup on the show, going to the ground in all of his fights. This one looked like a rematch of Slice vs. Nelson on paper, but Nelson showed a side at the TUF finale that his fans had been waiting for.

Schaub pushed the fight early on. Schaub came at Nelson with several flurries of punches. Nelson looked stunned a few times and took down Schaub to break his momentum. Schaub was able to power out and come back with more strikes. Nelson remained patient and nailed Schaub with a beautiful punch to the jaw, knocking out Schuab. The knockout earned Nelson a six-figure contract and a career as a UFC heavyweight. The knockout also earned Nelson the Knockout of the Night bonus.

The scene after the fight was interesting. Dana White boldly stated during the TUF show that he didn’t like Roy Nelson. He wasn’t impressed by Roy’s wins and felt Nelson was cocky. Nelson to his credit told White that he wanted to pace himself in a tournament and would let it fly if it was a one-match deal. Nelson let it fly in his one-match deal and stood by his word. White didn’t look very happy at all to present Nelson with the award. Coach Rashad Evans also publicly pulled for Schaub as well. Nelson had some fun words with Evans and seemed to take the whole thing in jest. Dana White did not look nearly as happy as he did in previous TUF finales.

Kimbo’s fight wasn’t nearly as exciting. Slice was booked against Houston Alexander purposely to deliver a standing slugfest. Alexander looked afraid to engage Slice and that did not go over well with the crowd. Alexander’s game plan was to leg kick Slice’s bad knee from a distance which while effective, is not very exciting. Slice was able to engage several times, including some exciting takedowns in the second round. Slice showed a whole new side to his game with some tremendous ground skills in the second round. Alexander was able to nail Slice with a leg kick that took Slice off of his feet in the third round. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough for Alexander and Slice won his first UFC match via decision.

The fight brings up something interesting from the show. The show is so invasive to the fighters, that it exposes the fighter’s weaknesses. Kimbo’s bad knees were discussed on the show, where he was told by a doctor that he had bad arthritis in one of them. Alexander said before the fight that he was going to concentrate on that bad knee, which he did. I almost felt that it was a little unfair to Kimbo and opened up an easy game plan for all of his future opponents.

So what are the futures of Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson in the UFC? I think Nelson has a great future in the UFC. He can match his ground game with just about anyone, and showed he has the standup game to go toe-to-toe with anyone. While I don’t think he is beating Brock Lesnar anytime soon, I do think he is capable of beating just about anyone else in the division. As for Slice, I don’t think he has a big future and it comes down to his exposed weakness. Every fighter will target his bad knee and after about two-three more fights of absorbing leg kicks, I don’t think he will have a knee left to fight on. Honestly, I think Slice’s big appeal at this point is as a character in the UFC Undisputed 2010 game.

At the same time, as long as these guys are drawing six-million viewers neither are going anywhere.

(Repost) Is Roy Nelson A TUF Ringer?

December 03, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

roy nelsonThe more UFC fights I see on The Ultimate Fighter, the more I start thinking about Roy Nelson. Nelson is 17-4, a former champion, former ADCC fighter, and yet he is competing with ex-NFL players and Kimbo Slice for a UFC deal. What is Nelson really doing there? I will tell you what he is doing there…he is a ringer!

I am less impressed with the skills of the fighters on this season’s TUF more than any other season. It becomes obvious quickly that these guys are babies when it comes to the world of MMA fighting. Roy Nelson on the other hand, is in a class all by himself on the show. The only explanation for Nelson being on the show is that Dana White sabotaged his own show to make a point.

For one thing, Roy Nelson is on the show to prove that MMA fighters are better athletes than NFL players. Even a player that looks like Roy Nelson can whip a jacked up NFL player in an MMA fight. Nelson is also there to put a street fighting hype machine like Kimbo Slice in his place. Dana White’s reaction following the Nelson-Slice fight was brilliant. It told me everything that I needed to know and confirmed for me that the fix is in!

Dana White was practically outraged after Nelson beat Slice. White made comments about Nelson’s “weak” punches and Nelson’s physique. When has Dana White ever criticized a winner on The Ultimate Fighter? I don’t ever recall White trashing a TUF fighter like that immediately after a win on the show. I suspect the outrage was purely phony and a bit of reverse psychology from the UFC president. Dana White is the best promoter in the history of MMA and is doing what he does best and that is promote his next heavyweight monster…Roy Nelson.

After White makes those remarks, what are you thinking? Maybe, in the back of your head you are thinking, “So a guy who is fat, throws weak punches, and has a weak ground game beat the monster Kimbo Slice?” The same will be said again the next time Nelson takes down one of the hyped ex-NFL players. The strategy is pure genius out of Dana White. Casual UFC fans would have laughed the second they saw Nelson in a UFC octagon. Now, they know this guy is for real and may even pay to see him fight.

There is no logical reason that Nelson should have to compete for a UFC contract. The guy is a former IFL heavyweight champion who has fought marquee matches. I could understand if the theme of the show was a comeback like past TUF seasons, but that is not what this show is about. I look at former IFL fighter, Ben Rothwell as a guy that supports my theory. Nelson beat Rothwell in the IFL, yet Rothwell is making his UFC debut in two weeks and didn’t have to enter a contest to get a UFC deal. So a guy who Nelson beat and was knocked out by Andrei Arlovski last year is good enough to get a UFC contract and the former IFL champion isn’t?

There is also huge marketing potential in Roy Nelson for the UFC. Matt Hughes has been promoted throughout his career as something of an “every-man.” Hughes’ livelihood as a farmer has made him the blue collar hero to UFC fans. Hughes is wrapping up his career and Dana doesn’t have anyone to fill that role. There is something extremely appealing and marketable about a guy that you can relate to chasing the UFC heavyweight title. There was even a moment on TUF where Rashad Evans and his team talked about Roy booking his own fights and training in his basement. It is all coming together perfectly for Dana White.

I can’t say that I blame Dana White. He has become very protective of his sport over the last few years. White has always blasted his competitors whenever he felt that they were damaging the integrity of the sport. Recently, White has been outspoken about Strikeforce’s signing of Herschel Walker. A few years ago his cause was ironically enough, Kimbo Slice. What better way to send a message than by having a fat, dumpy, fighter who looks he just left his third buffet beat Kimbo Slice and a bunch of ex-NFL players? I say it is actually pretty brilliant.

TUF Fighter Named in Wrongful Death Suit

November 02, 2009 By: Eric Gargiulo Category: Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

Zak JensenSometimes you have to wonder about the screening process of these reality TV shows. Zak Jensen on the current The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights has been named as a defendant in a wrongful death lawsuit. Jensen has been reportedly implicated by a family as playing a part in their son’s death on a Mexico vacation.

It is an interesting story on one particular level. To me, I find it interesting that the UFC would take a risk on putting this guy on the show. He has no criminal charges filed against him, yet it is a bit of a shady story. Zak did get chocked out in his first fight, but what if he won? How do you promote a guy like that without answering some tough questions? The sport already has a bad public perception, and this would have done MMA no favors.

The Stillwater Gazette reports – Relatives of a Stillwater Area High School graduate who died in Mexico under unclear circumstances say they are just looking for justice and details about his death by filing a lawsuit against those who saw him last.

Elizabeth Gunderson Koll filed the suit Thursday in Washington on behalf of her son, Josh Gunderson. The suit accuses Zachery Jensen, Jason Jones and Sterling Systems, which is owned by Jones, of negligence in Josh Gunderson’s death.

The report also claims that Jensen was a bodyguard for Jones on the trip.

KSTP TV reports -An autopsy ordered by the family shows Gunderson had wounds to his face, and that he ultimately choked on his own vomit. The medical examiner says that could have happened because of a struggle.

The concierge at the Sheraton Hotel told authorities Jensen said “I just defended myself. He was attacking me.” They claim he also said “he shouldn’t be with her. He was liking her and she didn’t.”

Who knows where this is go and Jensen may be perfectly innocent here. I just question why the UFC didn’t wait for the legal mess to smooth over before putting Jensen on the show. I think it is pretty obvious by looking at this season’s cast that the UFC had very slim pickings when it came to casting heavyweights this season. The only explanation I can think of is that the hopefuls were just so bad that Jensen got in by default.

For those who have been watching the show this season, this is a pretty ironic story considering who is involved. In episode five, Jensen was accused by Wes Sims of leaving some man goo behind in the shower. Since that moment, Jensen has been an outcast in the house. Jensen was subsequently submitted in the next episode.

Let’s just say that this lawsuit on top of his appearances on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights probably won’t do too much to help his career as a bodyguard. Thank goodness no criminal charges were filed, because the boys may not have been as nice as Wes Sims when it comes to leaving your goo behind.

The Full Mount – MMA News for the week ending 10/31/09

November 02, 2009 By: Brett Clendaniel Category: Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

kimbo slice Welcome to my new, weekly article for the Camel-Clutch Blog. Every week, I’ll fill this article full of all of the big mixed-martial arts news, rumors, upcoming cards, results and predictions. MMA is a passion of mine and has passed professional wrestling years ago as something that I follow 24/7. Enjoy “The Full Mount.”

All Mixed Up
If there’s one thing for the casual fan to learn very quickly about MMA, it’s that a card is never actually set in stone until the night of an event. The bad news began on Monday when it was announced that the UFC 106 match between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin had been postponed to UFC 108 on January 2010. Then came the news that Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson will now co-main event UFC 106 to fill the void. I love Kos and I love “Rumble” Johnson, but this is no co-main event.

Remember when Jon Fitch was scheduled to face Ricardo Almeida at UFC 106? That matchup idea seems like so long ago. After Almeida backed out of the fight due to injury, they made a match between Fitch and Thiago Alves for UFC 107. This week then brought us the news that Alves is now injured and cannot compete in that fight. Fitch will now face rising newcomer, Mike Pierce at UFC 107. Pierce is 9-1, with 6 consecutive victories including his upset over Brock Larson at UFC Fight Night 19.

Today brings us the news that the UFC 108 main event between Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort has been postponed as well. Silva recently had elbow surgery and is going to need more time to rehab. With Lesnar/Carwin moving to UFC 108, that more than fills the void left by Silva/Belfort. UFC 108 is stacked!

It’s A Bad Time To Be Champ
How’d bad is it to be a champion in the UFC right now? Here’s how bad:

UFC Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesnar – Out until January with some type of flu
Lightweight Champ Lyoto Machida – Out until April or May after surgery on his hand
Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva – Out until February or March after elbow surgery
Welterweight Champ Georges St. Pierre – Out until March with a torn abductor muscle
Lightweight Champ BJ Penn – Healthy, for now…but will he be after his UFC 107 match with Diego Sanchez? If being a champ in the UFC has anything to say about it, my guess is, no.

“Houston, We Have a Problem”
That was the line that Kimbo Slice updated his Twitter with on Friday. It was just a few minutes after he updated the account with “I Accept.” What was Kimbo exactly referencing? Dana White had stated in a radio interview over a month ago that we would see Kimbo Slice on The Ultimate Fighter 10 finale. There have been rumors for weeks regarding who Kimbo would be facing at that event. The rumors seemed to center around three specific names; Roy Nelson, Seth Petruzelli, and Houston Alexander.

MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Houston Alexander will be the man to face Slice. Alexander has applied for a license to fight with the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Since bursting onto the UFC scene with highlight reel knockouts against Alessio Sakara and Keith Jardine, Houston was the victim of three straight UFC losses. He has since won one match in another organization. This will be his first match back with the UFC.

Another major note is that this match with be at a catchweight of 215 lbs. Alexander has always fought at 205 and Slice’s most recent TUF match against Roy Nelson was at 230 lbs. It has been assumed that since Slice joined American Top Team, that he would move down to 205 lbs. Slice stands a much better chance against the likes of Liddell and Couture than against guys like Cain and Dos Santos. Heavyweights now know that Slice can be tossed around at will. And, according to Nelson, all you need to do is sit on Slice’s chest and softly tap his head 12 times in order to beat him. 205 lbs. is where Slice needs to end up and it seems that this 215 catchweight bout is American Top Team’s way of moving him towards that mark.

It’s way too early for a prediction. Don’t expect to see any arm bars and triangle chokes in this match. These guys will be swinging for the fences. One of these two guys is virtually guaranteed the Knockout of the Night Bonus. This is a match that Kimbo Slice can win just as much as it is a match that can earn Houston Alexander a new UFC contract.

Strikeforce: Fedor Emelianenko vs Brett Rogers Predictions
Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Rogers takes place this coming Saturday, November 7 live on CBS. It will be the first nationally-televised on network TV event since Kimbo Slice got TKO’d by Seth Petruzelli. Fedor Emelianenko makes his much-anticipated Strikeforce debut. He will be fighting the undefeated Brett Rogers. Rogers is 10-0 with 9 knockouts. Rogers has never had a match last longer than a minute-thirty eight through the send round. His notable wins are over James Thompson and Andrei Arlovski. Fedor, however, is 30-1 with 1 no contest. His one loss was due to a doctor stoppage after an illegal, accidentally elbow from Tsuyoshi Kohsaka. He holds victories over Mark Coleman, Antonio Nogueira, Mirko Cro Cop, Tim Sylvia, Heath Herring and Andrei Arvlovski. Fedor is commonly called the top-ranked all-around fighter on the planet. I’m just not sold on that. I’ll take GSP and Anderson Silva over Fedor on that list any day of the week.

Here’s why I am not sold on Fedor. We all know that the most talented organization in the world is the UFC. Until Fedor fights in the UFC and beats some of the heavyweights there, he can’t possibly be the best heavyweight, better yet, the best all-around fighter in the world. Who has Fedor beaten that earns him any prize? In my opinion, his only victory worth noting is over Nogueira. His victories over Coleman, Cro Cop, Sylvia, Herring and Arvlovski came way after any of those fighters’ primes. Each of those guys were on the downside of their careers. He hasn’t beaten anyone that Brett Rogers couldn’t beat. This is exactly why Fedor has joined Strikeforce. Though it’s not the UFC, it’s better than where he’s been. A few victories in Strikeforce will at least give him credibility. Still, until Fedor steps inside of a UFC octagon and fights the likes of Lesnar, Carwin, Couture, Velasquez, Mir, Kongo, and Dos Santos, he simply will always have an asterisk next to his name. With that said…it’s prediction time.

Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers

Prediction: Fedor Emelianenko via Submission

Middleweight Championship Bout: Jason Miller vs. Jake Shields (c)
Prediction:
Jake Shields via Decision

Light-Heavyweight Non-Title Bout: Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Prediction:
Gegard Mousasi via Knockout

Antonio Silva vs. Fabricio Werdum
Prediction:
Antonio Silva via TKO

Kimbo Slice vs. Roy Nelson – The Big Let Down

October 01, 2009 By: Brett Clendaniel Category: Entertainment, Sports, UFC / Mixed Martial Arts

kimbo slice vs. roy nelsonYou are reading my blog for today that discusses my thoughts of the Kimbo Slice/Roy Nelson fight on The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights. This covers the thoughts, predictions, anticipation, as well as rumors of how the fight will go.

8:20am : Just rolled out of bed, an hour and a half earlier then I’m accustomed to. Why, you ask? IT’S KIMBO SLICE/ROY NELSON DAY!!!! The anticipation and suspense is killing me.

9:31am : My daily morning routine of checking all of my favorite websites has been disrupted today. I’m reading multiple MMA forums on spoilers for this fight. There are definitely spoilers out there. The most read spoiler that I have come across is that current TUF contestant Wes Sims leaked that Kimbo loses his first fight in the first round. Apparently, Sims leaked this info while he was still in the house via an iPod Touch with Wifi. Sounds a little far-fetched, however; it’s being said that Sims has an altercation with Slice in the house that leads to Sims blowing up and, thus, leaking this information.

10:01am : The fans, like myself, that do not want to see Kimbo lose seem to be holding on to two hints of hope. First, the half-second flash during this week’s TUF commercial preview that is clearly showing Slice landing a stiff right directly onto the cheek of Nelson. In the photo, Nelson is seeing falling backwards. Second, UFC released a minute-long season preview prior to the season even starting. In that video, a mean that appears to be Slice can be seen performing a ground-and-pound on Brandon Schaub. That implies to us that Slice will win this fight and face Schaub later in the season, or Slice will come back on the show as an injury replacement.

11:21am : If I sit here any longer and research this fight, I’m going to go crazy. Time to play some Call of Duty 5 and NHL 10 on Xbox Live with some friends.

11:39am : Well, that didn’t work out like I thought it would. I made it onto Xbox, however, we’re all discussing the Slice/Nelson fight. Go figure.

3:51pm : Ok, I got away from this fight for a few hours thanks to NHL 10. I’m now watching some Slice and Nelson fights on YouTube. I would love to see Kimbo reenact the same end sequence that Nelson had when he was knocked out by Arlovski. Nelson is definitely a lot better on the ground then most heavyweights. This could be key for him in possibly defeating Kimbo.

4:14pm : Then again, I just re-watched the complete Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight. Slice looked really good on the ground. He had multiple escapes and got out of a few submission attempts by Thompson.

4:22pm : I understand that Seth Petruzelli is an MMA veteran, but he doesn’t beat Slice is Slice had a chance to prepare for him. Petruzelli is talking a lot of trash about Kimbo recently. If I were Seth, I wouldn’t want to face Kimbo again. I feel that it would be a completely different outcome. In hind-sight, Slice would have knocked out Ken Shamrock with ease had that match gone on as planned.

6:50pm : Pro Wrestling Radio hosted by Camel-Clutch Blog’s own Eric Gargiulo is on tonight. I’m sensing a call-in to discuss this match further. After all, I can’t discuss this match much more with myself.

7:43pm : Called into Eric Gargiulo’s Pro Wrestling Radio show to discuss this upcoming matchup in detail. Both of us seem to agree that Nelson will win. Eric seems to be leaning towards Nelson via submission. I believe it will be Nelson via decision. The good news is that we have two fighters here who have gone deep into fights in their careers. Therefore, we won’t see 2 guys hunched over with their hands on their knees, gasping for air midway through the first. We also discussed how MMA die-hards are yet to fully embrace Kimbo.

8:05pm : Less than two hours until show time. After the call with Eric, it made me want to do a bit of research. Of every athlete on the show this year, Nelson appears to be the most out-of-shape. To the people who believe that Nelson is going to be gassed after a minute, it should be noted that 7 of Nelson’s 17 fights have gone into the third round or went the distance.

9:15pm : Forty-five minutes left. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the Phillies are taking it to the Astros. They should clinch their third straight NL East Title tonight. That’s awesome. I almost wish the game was a little closer though. That way it would keep me completely occupied until fight time.

9:18pm : A friend of mine just left the comment “SPOILER, Kimbo gets taken down and gets his ass whooped” on my Facebook. Good thing I write for blogs and do radio shows or else I’d be rather upset at this. Writing and talking about sports, wrestling, and MMA have caused me to stay informed. It seems like his mind is made up that this is what will happen. I’m not that sure. I’m holding out hope that the iron-clad agreements that everyone associated with the show must sign, truly prevents this result from leaking. I want to be surprised tonight. If Kimbo wins like I want, I will be surprised simply because of all the rumors that have him losing.

9:28pm : Another spoiler that I read about last week that I just saw again; “Kimbo wins by controversial decision”. Other spoilers that I have read about in the last week: 1) Kimbo’s second fight after beating Nelson is against Wes Sims. 2) Dana White is given the opportunity to overturn a decision for the first time in history. Number 2 would never happen. And, if it did, I would think fans would go crazy if it’s in Kimbo’s favor.

9:58pm : Phillies won their third consecutive NL East title in perfect time! It’s time for Kimbo Slice and Roy Nelson!!

10:02pm : Kimbo has come across really likable during this show. He has won over a portion of MMA fans thanks to this show.

10:03pm : “The Enemy is the Innerme. The Inner-ME!”

10:05pm : Rashad is bringing out the big dogs to get Nelson ready for Kimbo. The ‘Dean of Mean’ Keith Jardine is here!

10:07pm : This face-to-face showdown with Rashad and Rampage is completely lifeless for the viewer now that we know they won’t face off at the end of the season.

10:08pm : “Take your nuts out of Rashad’s mouth”.

10:13pm : “Are you the black jew?”

10:16pm : While training Kimbo to remove Roy from the mount, Rampage says “we don’t have anyone to replicate that big-bellyness.”

10:25pm : Maybe the most telling symbol of the day that Kimbo will lose. The description of tonight’s episode on UFC.com says that Team Rashad will pick the fight for week 4.

10:27pm : Nice to hear that “Big Marcus” has quite the green thumb.

10:28pm : “The bird that flies high eventually has to come back down to Earth to get water.”

10:29pm : The weigh in. Kimbo Slice weighs in at 230 lbs. “Big Country” Roy Nelson is a slim, trim 264 lbs, even after hitting “every buffet in Las Vegas”.

10:33pm : Hardcore Holly’s theme music in the background. Nice.

10:37pm : At this time last week, round 1 of the fight had already begun. This fight is not going the distance obviously.

10:38pm : “I’m the bull, I’m the bull….wooooaaahhhh”.

10:44pm : As Mike Goldberg would say, “And heerreeee we go!” It’s fight time! Once again, I must point out that at this time last week, round 2 was underway. Someone is getting KO’ed or submitted.

10:45pm : These guys are just dancing around and feeling each other out right now.

10:47pm : The first exchange between the two. Kimbo definitely got the better end of that exchange.

10:48pm : Roy has taken this one to the ground. This is not good.

10:50pm : Kimbo is very, very lucky that the fight wasn’t stopped. Roy just laid on top of him and continued clubbing him in the head. Round 1 is over. Kimbo can’t let this get to the ground in round 2. With such little time left, this fight doesn’t have much left to it. This fight is done within the first minute-thirty of round 2.

10:52pm : From my Facebook newsfeed : “Kimbo defeated the cage wall and post, but is struggling against Seth Rogen.” Yes, I laughed out loud. Nice, Justin.

10:54pm : Kimbo just caught Roy with that shot we continue seeing in the commercial

10:56pm : The fight is stopped due to suffocation. I kid, I kid. Roy Nelson just laid on Kimbo, however, and hit him with shots to the head that wouldn’t knock my wife out.

10:59pm : And the preview for next week seems to imply that Kimbo will be back in this competition. I put everything that I own on the fact that Kimbo comes back. This Roy Nelson guy is a joke.

So, the fight is over. I thought that Kimbo showed some promise. I am a little disgusted that Roy Nelson just laid on Kimbo until the stoppage. It was rather disturbing. This fight has left me feeling let down. It’s like meeting an awesome girl, going on 15 dates waiting for that kiss. Once you finally get that kiss, it’s horrible; her slobber runs down your shirt, she kisses more of your cheeks than your lips. Just a complete letdown. Kimbo will find his way back onto this show. Rampage has quickly cemented himself as the worst coach in TUF history. It’s now 11:11….time to make a wish.

11:11pm : My wish: Kimbo comes back to the show and knocks Roy “my greatest asset is my tummy” Nelson on his tail.

I covered many rumors about this fight prior to this fight. One of them was that Kimbo would lose tonight, be brought back onto the show as an injury replacement, and win his next fight by TKO. This looks like it could be accurate, thus far. Let’s see what happens. Whatever the case, something needs to happen because my whole day of build-up has left me feeling like I have slobber on my shirt and saliva all over my cheeks.
