Beat The Shark NFL Pick ‘Ems For NFL Week 14

December 10, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Contests, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Beat the Shark DebbieI sure wasn’t prepared for this one boys and girls. Just when you think you have seen everything, something new comes along. For the first time this season “Beat The Shark” ended in a tie. That’s right Donovan McNabb, a tie. I looked at the picks, saw that Debbie Doneker managed to go 2-2 on Sunday, and “The Shark” well he was 1-2. Wait just a second, I also took the Packers Monday night, and I think you all know the rest. So we played to a tie 2-2 a piece. So what to do? Well treat you all to a second helping of Debbie, and try to break the tie. Don’t worry this week I actually created a tie-break system.

For those of you who may not have checked it out last week, Debbie is all action! A true die hard football fan from Feasterville,Pa. just minutes from Philly. When she had heard about the tie, and saw my offer to go at it again, she hopped right to it. I don’t quit til I win people, and neither did Debbie. In fact she went as far as to share with us a neat little story, yes that I am going to repost, so we all know how it really went down Deb!

“Again, I’m a suburban girl with a city mouth. LOVE the ‘Iggles, so at least I was raised right. >:) I was once told I was someone’s favorite non-fictional character and, well, that’s the best way to describe me!”

Here’s a little known secret about moi … I am the sole reason we got T.O. When we lost to the Panthers in the NFC Conference game on that cold January 18th, AT HOME NO LESS, I was fed up, discouraged and drunk so I emailed the entire Philadelphia Eagles organization and told them they should pick him up. When they did, I claimed full responsibility (you’re welcome), and that entire dream season I DVR’d the games, analyzed them over the week and emailed my thoughts, opinions and advice to them. CLEARLY they listened to everything thus putting us smack dab at the head of the Superbowl run! Sadly though, Andy started getting teased that he was listening to a ‘girl’ and cut all ties with me after the NFC Championship game which ultimately led to us LOSING the ‘Bowl.

Now I may have never gotten any type of response from them, except for that pesky little restraining thinga-ma-bobber, but I know they listened to me. At least that’s what I keep telling myself.

So now we know who to blame for that mess, huh? So after the tie “the Shark” now has a games record of 23-20-1 while the ladies are 22-22. I won’t count the week as a tie, because ties are like kissing your sister. I never had a sister, but if I did, i’m sure we would not be kissing! So let’s get on to the picks and see if we can end this little feud once and for all:

Debbie Chose:

Colts -7 vs Broncos
Vikings -7 vs Bengals
Eagles +2 at Giants
Chargers +3 at Cowboys

“The Shark” will take:

Packers -3.5 at Bears
Cardinals -3 at 49ers ( Monday Night )
Redskins -2 at Raiders
Jaguars -3 vs Dolphins

The tie breaker is Monday points. Debbie took 47 overall points and I have taken 44.

Somehow it means so much more to win the second time around. Alot of smack talk was traded between us, so here goes nothing Debbie!

I wanted to remind all of you loyal readers that we will be holding a photo voting contest for the ladies who have participated in the “Beat The Shark” contest at the end of the season. You will be asked to cast a vote for your favorite girl to be named “Miss Beat The Shark”.

Beat The Shark NFL Pick ‘Ems Contest For NFL Week 13

December 04, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Contests, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Beat the Shark Debbie“You’re not really a man if you take pride in beating a woman.” Hmm some (former) friend of mine had a few too much to drink on a certain evening, and well he had some sweet words for “The Shark”. Remember people, this is a competition, but a fun competition, let’s not get jealous over my dealings with beautiful girls and football on a weekly basis. Like they say “it’s a tough job but somebody has got to do it”. I vote for me to do it!

Speaking of beautiful girls, lets look back to last week and ahead to this week. This is why you really read, for the girls, am I right? I have yet to hear anyone ask for a photo of me, and chances are I won’t. Last week our lovely New York bartender Candice Albanese gave it a great effort but could only get a 2-2 record, while “The Shark” managed to go 3-1. So for the season “The Shark” has taken a slim lead of both 6-5 in weeks, and a 21-18-1 record in picks to the girls 20-20.

This week I bring you another fun and exciting new female, who will dazzle you with a great photo and will make you cheer for her to beat my butt! I bring to you Debbie Doneker from Feasterville, Pa, which is just outside of Philadelphia. Debbie is more then familiar with the game and is more then aware of the point system. She told me that she’s having quite a good season in picking. What luck, I had to find one with looks and total football knowledge, but hey its all about the challenge. Debbie gave me this brief scoop about herself “Ok, I’m a suburban girl with a city mouth. :) LOVE the ‘Iggles, so at least I was raised right. >:) I was once told I was someone’s favorite non-fictional character and, well … that’s the best way to describe me!” Hey i’m always into non-ficition, but that’s one crazy way to describe someone. I guess it’s true that you learn something new everyday. So I will try and teach Debbie something new this week, how it feels to be turned aside by a guy! Judging from the pic i can guess it does’nt happen often! Thanks Debbie!

Ok so Debbie has chosen:

Steelers -10 vs Raiders
Colts -7 vs Titans
Eagles -4.5 at Falcons
Vikings -7 at Cardinals

Meanwhile “The Shark” will select:

Patriots -4 at Dolphins
Texans -1 at Jaguars
Packers -3 vs Ravens (Monday Night)
Seahawks +2 vs 49ers

As you all know the season is drawing to a close, so this is a very big week for both sides. Best of luck to you Debbie, you’re gonna need it!

I would like to remind everyone that at the end of the “Beat The Shark” season we will be showing you the photos of all the girls that have participated and will be asking you our loyal readers to choose one as the 2009 Miss Beat The Shark. The lucky winner will receive a prize and be used in future promos for “The Shark” and his contest.

Don’t forget to check out my fantasy football article “Flash and Crash” as well this week, right here at www.CamelClutchBlog.com

Beat The Shark Wrap Up Plus Other Tidbits From NFL Week 12

December 02, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Contests, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Beat The Shark CandiceAs it gets later into this NFL season you know how much every game counts. It is so easy to lose it all on one play. By the same token you also know how rewarding it can be when you play tough, prepare and let it all hang out!

Well despite the terrific efforts of last weeks contestant, Miss Candice Albanese, “The Shark” was back in the winners circle, and of course back to brag about it. With a big 3-1 record on the week, thanks to winning picks the Buccaneers, Seahawks and Titans, “The Shark” was able to lift the picks record to 21-18-1 and take a 6-5 lead over the ladies. Candice did a pretty good job as well, going 2-2 as she had winners with the Colts and the Vikings, but fell with the Dolphins losing to the Bills and the Eagles were unable to cover against the Redskins. So now with that the women are back to .500 with a record of 20-20. Oh so maybe it is time for the tie break against myself and the Albanese girls. Sister Karyn got me in week 3, and I took down Candice in week 12. Hmmm, perhaps a me vs. both in a week or 2? Anyway it goes to show once again that beauty does not always beat the beast! Nice efforts Candice, but you’ve been Shark Bit!

Ok so with that beside me I wanted to take the time to say a few things about the NFL after 12 weeks. I usually do a thumbs up and a thumbs down but I just hate to miss out on stuff, so here is just some random thoughts about what is going on. Enjoy, and comment if you like:

I can’t help but wonder where the Titans would be if Vince Young started from week 1? 5 straight wins since Young took over as starting QB, and now the grand test as they meet the undefeated Colts. Interesting! I am calling the upset here and now.

What exactly has gotten in to Brett Favre? The ageless wonder is lighting up the sky in Minnesota and now has 24 TDs to just 3 INTs. Can you say MVP?

When will Gary Kubiak realize that Chris Brown does not offer him the speed and the tools that he gets from Steve Slaton? Since Brown has become a larger part of this offense the Texans have gone 0-2.

Speaking of MVP, did Drew Brees just cast a vote for himself with that amazing performance on Monday night, or is he still going to say how good it feels just to share the stage with Brady?

Speaking of Brady, do you think he was allowed to watch that Victoria Secret fashion show, or did his wife say, “Ugh turn that off, it reminds me of work?”

Is it amazing to anyone else how QB’s like Dennis Dixon, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Freeman, and Alex Smith all had statistically better days then guys like Matt Hasselbeck?

Will any of these 5 win teams sniff the playoffs: Texans, Titans, Jags?

Could we possibly have a Super Bowl showdown of unbeaten teams?

Ok, ok enough thinking out loud for me, it’s time to bear down and get ready for week 13! Wow, week 13, I hope alot of your hometowns have good hockey and basketball teams, the NFL Season is winding down fast!

Beat The Shark NFL Pick ‘Ems Contest For NFL Week 12

November 28, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Contests, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Beat The Shark CandiceBy the time you read this all of the Thanksgiving festivities will be over. All the food will be eaten, and the family and friends will go back to life as they know it. I just simply wanted to give thanks for the fact that last week was well behind me after getting clobbered in this contest. So as I sat and talked with old friends at my 20 year high school reunion, and heard about how funny it was to watch me get beat by girls in a football pick contest, I realized it was tme to get serious!

With that here I stand with my 11th installment of “Beat The Shark”. Last week, I could only manage 1 victory while my opponent Morisa Conner had a great day going 3-1. Hey I guess it isn’t always going to be my week, and I learned a valued lesson about running my mouth. So here is how it all stands: The ladies and I are tied with 5 wins each in the overall weeks, and they have the slight edge in games with a record of 19-17 against my 18-17-1, time to shape up here!

This week I attempt to work the revenge factor to motivate myself. Remember all the way back to week 2 (yes the season has gone by that fast) when I was destroyed by New York girl Karyn Albanese? Well this week I’m going one on one with her sister Candice, and I will try and settle the score. As always I have found another fun and exciting opponent with the beautiful looks and the desire to show me up! Candice admits she’s not quite as football educated as her sister, but she makes it quite clear that it won’t take that to beat me.”Hey you! I can’t really promise you anything but I’ll try! I live in Staten Island and I have been bartending for the last 12 yrs. I was born into a Jets household but I do love the Eagles. Haha my interests! I’m def a reality show junkie/couch potato!!! Now why I’m interested in beating you, lol that’s an easy one! I wanna see if someone like me who doesn’t really know much about the game can kick ur butt you big shot sweater vest wearing facebook junkie!” Ok is that the biggest call out I have had yet or what? Hey you can pick on my clothes, you can pick on my internet obsessions, but nobody mocks my picks (well they can if I don’t win huh?).

Ok so now on to the picks, let’s see if I can get back on the winning track or if I get swept by the lovely sisters.

Candice chose:

Dolphins -3.5 at Buffalo
Vikings -11 vs Bears
Colts -4 at Texans
Eagles -8 vs Washington

“The Shark” will take:

Steelers -3 at Ravens
Buccaneers +13 at Falcons
Seahawks -3 at Rams
Titans +3 vs Cardinals

Ok so my picks may not look anywhere near as good as Candice’s photo, but I will give it my best. Good luck to her and good luck to everyone in week 12!

Beat The Shark NFL Pick ‘Ems Contest For NFL Week 11

November 21, 2009 By: Jeff Porrini Category: Contests, NFL / NCAA Football, Sports

Beat The Shark Morisa“The Shark”, “The Shark”, “The Shark” is on fire! Grab the water hose football fans, your favorite NFL games picker is back for another week of action, and he is red hot!

Dare I go on and brag about how I have won 3 straight and 4 of the last 5 contest? Should I waste time saying how I now have a 17-14-1 record while the females have slipped to 16-16? Perhaps, since I remember a few weeks back being the butt of alot of jokes about how badly I had been losing. See it’s just my sweet nature to allow everyone some excitement, and build the drama with a late season comeback! To our dear blogmaster Eric G., don’t forget, it’s time to sing my praises now on your weekly radio show! “SharkMania” is alive and well.

Ok so here we are at week 11 of the NFL season. The games do not get any easier as the season rolls along so it’s up to these girls to pick up the pace if they intend to catch up.

This week I bring a no-nonsense girl into the contest, as I tangle with Morisa Conner. Morisa is a huge football fan, the type you don’t dare bother on a Sunday when the games are on. I’ve seen her in action, she tends to yell louder then I do? “I love watching football, don’t even try and contact me on a Sunday. I also like watching gymnastics, boxing and the big baseball games. I’m pretty outgoing and down to Earth, I always like trying new things” Morisa added about herself. Hey here’s a new thing to try, how about beating me, seems to be impossible as of late. Morisa is very athletic, so we will see if her competitve side can shine this week. Ha, in fact she already gave me things to say if she wins, gotta love confidence! She’s also very big in tattoos, hmmm maybe a “I got beat by the Shark” somewhere on her arm or something?

So on to our picks for this week:

Morisa chose

Eagles -3 at Bears
Vikings -11 vs Seahawks
Saints -12 at Bucs
Cardinals -9 at Rams

“The Shark” will choose

Jaguars -9 vs Bills
Lions -3.5 vs Browns
Packers -7 vs 49ers
Patriots -10.5 vs Jets

Ok so here we go, set for another big week! Let’s hope the ladies can hang this time! Good luck in week 11, and don’t forget to check out my “Flash and Crash” article this week!
