Vince McMahon returned to WWE RAW after a lengthy absence and announced that WrestleMania 27 would have a Guest Host. With no inside sources and a little extra time on my hands today, I thought it would be fun to make a few uneducated guesses as to who that host will be.
I thought it would be fun to do this Vegas style with betting odds indicating favorites and long shots. Please bet responsibly.
Shawn Michaels 8-1 odds – Mr. WrestleMania is an obvious choice and probably the closest thing to a lock for the gig. Shawn Michaels has made sporadic appearances for the WWE since retiring at WrestleMania 26 and oh yeah, he will already be in town for his WWE Hall of Fame induction. Michaels can still go and maybe even deliver a piece of Sweet Chin Music to The Miz to make his mark on this year’s WrestleMania. The only problem here is that Michaels is almost too obvious to be the man for the gig.
[adinserter name=”366 right”]Justin Bieber 12-1 odds – Yes nothing says WrestleMania than a teenage pop star with a bad haircut. Not since WrestleMania 2 and the appearance of Jonathon Taylor Thomas have the WWE made such a strong push to satisfy their teenage girl fan base of 9-13. There have been rumors and reports for months that the WWE have been hot for Mr. Bieber with months of negotiations for the big date. Isn’t it amazing how hard the WWE will work to negotiate with Justin Bieber but in 2001 they couldn’t be bothered negotiating with Kevin Nash, Goldberg, Hulk Hogan, or Sting for the Invasion angle? Well I digress. If it weren’t for those rumors, Justin would have longer odds but it looks like one way or another he is coming to WrestleMania 27.
Stone Cold Steve Austin 17-1 odds – What better way to promote the return of the Rattlesnake to WWE programming than by running the show at WrestleMania? Last year Austin was the guest host on the RAW leading up to WrestleMania and he was great. I am almost inclined to make him the overall favorite here but as much as this makes sense, I don’t think it happens. It may be a network call to keep Austin off television until Tough Enough to build anticipation to his return. So in essence, the Tough Enough gig may actually hurt his chances of appearing at WrestleMania although I’d love to see it.
Brock Lesnar 20-1 odds – The Brock Lesnar WrestleMania rumors have been floating around since the infamous Lesnar-Undertaker confrontation at UFC 121. Lesnar recently addressed those rumors and said it isn’t happening. Dana White has been adamant about Lesnar not wrestling in the WWE while under a UFC contract. Vince McMahon has reportedly been confident that he had Lesnar for WrestleMania so what gives? Guest Host is the perfect gig that will satisfy all parties here. Hey, Rampage Jackson did it so why can’t Brock? Lesnar’s autobiography should be out around this time so the gig makes perfect sense to promote his book and the Ultimate Fighter.
Bob Barker 24-1 odds – The cat is already out of the bag that the Price is Right legend will be at WrestleMania 27. Most fans agree that he was the best Guest Host of RAW during that entire run of celebrity guest hosts so it makes sense. I just think that the WWE would like a little more bang out of this announcement. Barker would be fun, but it wouldn’t be big news since a) people already know he is coming and b) he won’t garner that much publicity. I could be wrong but I just don’t see it happening.
Kevin Nash 24-1 odds – Could Big Sexy return to WrestleMania? Hey I am all for Kevin Nash back at WrestleMania as long as someone hides his gear. Nash is still a great personality and would probably be a real fun guest host for four hours. At some point he would likely deliver a power bomb to an unsuspecting WWE superstar but if that is all we see of Big Daddy Cool in the ring than I am fine with it. The big problem here is relying on Kevin Nash to stay healthy getting in and out of the ring multiple times on one night. Jay Cutler has a better chance of staying healthy for a big game than Nash has of not tearing something in four hours.
Donald Trump 32-1 odds – The original guest host himself, Donald Trump has to be in the running for any guest host gig. With the return of Celebrity Apprentice right around the corner, WrestleMania 27 makes a perfect promotional vehicle for Mr. Money Bags to make an un-awaited WWE return. The odds should probably be higher because it appears this man crush that Vince McMahon has on Donald Trump always seems to rear its ugly head right around WrestleMania.
Sting 41-1 odds – How could I write a blog about WrestleMania speculation without mentioning Sting? Why the long odds? Well if the WWE does make a deal with Sting, being a guest host is probably the last place you would see him. If Sting is coming to WrestleMania 27 then he is coming to wrestle and not turn into some kind of goofy host. I hate to break it to WWE fans but the odds are probably just as high to see him actually wrestle at WrestleMania 27.
[adinserter name=”366 left”]Jersey Shore cast 50-1 odds – There have been rumblings about the Jersey Shore doing something on WrestleMania for a few weeks. A few WWE stars have recently called out Jersey Shore stars or had Twitter wars with one or another. I couldn’t think of a better way to alienate your entire wrestling fan base than to put the Jersey Shore kids on WrestleMania for four full hours. Even worse news is that most of these rumors center on Snooki so it could be four hours of just Snooki. On second thought maybe the odds should be higher since that appears to have been the goal of the WWE for the last four years.
Randy Savage 60-1 odds – Freak out, freak out and let the speculation begin about the Macho Man returning to WrestleMania. The recently released Randy Savage WWE All Stars video has led most people to believe that there is something going on with Randy Savage and the WWE. I do think that Savage will be back on WWE television but I don’t think we will see him back until he goes into the WWE Hall of Fame. It could happen but I just don’t think the timing is right for this one.
The Rock 100-1 odds – It is time to finally take The Rock out of any conversation that centers around a mystery or surprise guest at a WWE event. Hopefully the 100-1 odds are enough to get it through some people’s heads that he isn’t coming back now and he probably isn’t ever coming back. Sure The Rock says all of the right things but do you mean to tell me that the guy hasn’t had one free day in the last five years to appear at a WWE event? I think you have a better chance of seeing Bruno Sammartino appear on WrestleMania 27 than Dwayne Johnson as The Rock.
